I have a "bump out" in the LR that has a gas FP and adds a good bit of arch detail to the LR. I want to build in a TV and in-walls there and have it be as decent as possible for casual viewing, entertaining etc. I will also be building a dedicated HT room so this is NOT main movie screening area, the area in question is a big, open almost 1K sq ft room with kitchen, bar, dining, living area.

What I have is 9" ceilings coffered to 10" directly in front of this "bump out/built in". Gas FP is center, top of FP is 48". The TV will be placed in a 3-4" recess directly above the FP and in walls on either side (flush to front of screen) and theoretically the center above. Rears will be on the angled down portion of coffered ceiling in rear, couple over bar, couple of outdoor speakers too. Couch seating/viewing roughly 9-10' from FP/TV.

Would it be better for me to move TV up and center down or do as described above? How far outboard to place R/L in walls?

Also: going cheap on speakers for this room, any opinions on Monoprice vs OSD (I know both are contractor grade, not great)

doing a pretty decent Paradigm/AT screen system for the dedicated HT room, do not want to break the budget here

Picture would help. Never a fan of "over the fireplace" TV placement. Depending on the room in the recess...you might be able to put the TV on the center speaker.

I will upload a pic when I get to the office, will not be TOO useful, I have rearranging the layout/drywall and then having it painted next week. I can also upload a to scale drawing of what it will tentatively look like.

If this were main viewing area, I agree. TV over FP is less than ideal, also: it is a 65" LED, not sure about putting speaker behind it? I can make room though.

If I could get rid of the whole bumpout altogether I might, even losing the FP, but I cannot find the hardwood and would have to do the whole 1K feet.
