Brad here. Well now its official. Coming from Kino (in December 2014 I believe), the police action/comedy, and mid-1986 surprise hit, Running Scared.
(No connection to the 2006 movie of the same name, Running Scared (1986) came out on DVD in 2001).

I think the thread title very much describes this movie as the two main characters, Danny Costanzo (Billy Crystal) and Ray Huges (Gregory Hines) seem to go from one somewhat-comic police adventure to another, while the movie manages to maintain a serious tone as well.
It all worked together quite well as Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines put together a very nice chemistry as a police team.

I saw this one when it first came out in 1986. At first I thought what did I get myself into as the movie started out a bit slow. It soon picked up the pace and I found myself getting into the plot and identifying (as a then single-guy, college student with a girlfriend) with the two main characters.

Some observations:
The mobile-cell phone conversation in Julio Gonzalzes luxury car scene still carries most of its comic value today but lost on today's viewers would be how back in the mid-1980s, mobile phones in cars were still pretty much the domain of the well-to-do, especially with cell phones pretty much everywhere nowadays. My parents, who were doing quite well back then had one in their car (I never got one in mine though).

Notice how our two heroes play the role of heroes who are just this side of total klutzes, much like Indiana Jones in the Indiana Jones movies. Note how many situations do Danny and Ray look like smart-guys in one aspect (the bullet-proof glass in their car during the railroad chase) and then the situation gets turned on its head (unable to escape the car being crushed because of the bullet-proof glass).

The soundtrack was pretty cool too. Not a whole lot of hit songs but one major hit, Man Size Love by Klymaxx climbed the AT40 charts.

So glad this is finally coming to Blu (hopefully Kino does it right). I do have the earlier DVD which looks OK on my laptop but I had yet to put it up on the 70. Won't have to now unless I feel like comparing to the Blu.

This was a big favourite of mine back in the day, though I probably haven't seen it since at least 1990. I'll be picking it up for sure!

Most of the same sound team that did 2010 The Year We Make Contact (1984) in Dolby Stereo, did, Running Scared (1986) should sound fine

Peter Hyams, does if not most of his own DP photography in scope.

I think I have only seen this once around a friends in the mid 80's rental VHS Hi-Fi stereo.

imdb states no blow-up 70mm release checked with search for 70mm on Google nothing odd, as most of Hyams films ether had a 70mm six-track mag release. So guess it might be a Dolby TrueHD 2.0 release or maybe 5.1?

You won't regret it!
This movie singlehandedly REDEEMED an entire genre of buddy-cop comedies. Imagine "Billy Crystal as a cop", and you're halfway there. :)("Here's the situation: I have this gun here. Now, I am going to take the gun out, and I am going to shoot a lot of holes in the door. And if you are standing in front of that door, well, what can I tell you?: Some of the holes are going to be...in you!")

Er, haah? As I recall, Michael McDonald's "Sweet Freedom" was the one that got the heavy MTV rotation for months in the states.

You're right, I almost forgot about that song, and its even on my iPhone playlist.
Make that two AT40 charting songs on the soundtrack. Hope that doesn't cause any MRI's
(music rights issues) that might cause those two songs to be replaced.
