that does seem very expensive.

i am not much of a double-dipper.

dvd is pretty good, for me.

although my strategy now is to basically wait on shows that i think were big enough that they will eventually have blu-rays, green-rays or sting-rays put out on them.

and concentrate on purchasing the stuff that may not see anything but the dvd release, which can always go oop.

$90 seems pretty reasonable for one season. It's 1999, right? :)

Seriously though, I'm sure/hoping that's the MSRP and the price will come to down to approximately $60.
I think these will eventually be discounted to anywhere between $50 to $70 over time. Star Trek TNG earlier seasons are currently discounted to $50 on Amazon with the same list price.

I also think this is an interest time for CBS with Blu-ray releases. I believe their intent when remastering all these series was primarily for future HD syndication. The Star Trek franchise was an easy pick for Blu-ray releases since they always sell. Image releasing Twilight Zone was also an automatic, while Dick Van Dyke was a bit of a surprise. It will be interesting to see how well "I Love Lucy" and "The Andy Grifith Show" initially sell and what bearing that has on additional Blu-ray releases. The hard work has already been done so possibly even just average sales won't prevent future releases.

I have no need to replace the "I Love Lucy" DVDs with blu-rays. TAGS is a favorite and so I might bite on that one for the first five seasons later when the prices come down.

You know, sometimes you simply have to say "enough - I'm satisfied with what I have". I have all the seasons I want on dvd, and haven't even got around to watching them yet as I have so much to get around to. How much better can these really look and does it really matter for a character and script-based old b&w tv show? I mean really!Pass. Pretty simple - I didn't spend more than what this 1st season cost on BR for all the seasons 1-4 on dvd .

While I think it is fantastic that CBS is putting out some vintage TV on Blu-ray, like others I have to agree that it really is a burden to expect fans to upgrade their collections.

Shot on 35MM film, they look fantastic! All eight seasons of TAGS is available for streaming in HD on Netflix.

I hear you. I did upgrade Twilight Zone, Star Treks, and I did splurge on Dick Van Dyke during a sale. I also have picked up some more recent shows on Blu-ray when the price difference between DVD and Blu-ray was not great. When it comes to the 50's and 60's shows most of us have already picked up what we wanted on DVD, at least for ones with the biggest chance to get put out on Blu-ray.

However, when it comes to CBS, they've already gone to the big effort of remastering most of these to HD prior to their DVD releases. So it really is a no brainer for them to at least take the next step and put out Blu-ray releases for some of the bigger DVD sellers. My guess is that most will only upgrade their grail-like shows. I wouldn't expect many of the Blu-ray releases to come close to their DVD sales (except for maybe Star Trek's). But I'm glad they are going to the effort because it will allow those that wants to see their absolute favorites in the best quality available. And the difference can be amazing when done right.

Andy would be one of the few shows that would convince me to upgrade to a BD player. It's always been a favorite. Maybe CBS will do Gomer Pyle on BD next?

If The Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour is restored to its original broadcast versions, I will definitely buy that set day one.

Otherwise, I Love Lucy on Blu is one of those "I'll buy it when Amazon has the complete set for under a hundred bucks" deals.

The price for both Andy and Lucy is a major issue, IMO. These two were remastered for HD when the DVDs were released, were they not? So I'm guessing they didn't require the work of, say, Star Trek: TNG to get them ready for blu. So why are they commanding the same prices?

/Oh, and Andy S3 better have a complete copy of that Darlings episode that ran 3 minutes short on the CBS release.

I'm in agreement that the $130 list price being the same as Star Trek is a bit out of whack. Especially considering all the reworking of the special effects. But they're probably putting way more into Star Trek then the price actually covers. it is the volume they will sell with Star Trek and the syndication that will pay for the SFX redo.

It is true that these have already been remastered to HD, and I can see your logic but I'm not sure that when something is remastered really makes a difference. Twilight Zone was originally remastered to HD for the last DVD release (I believe). The expense is the same whether earlier or later in the process. The fact that they footed the cost up front before the DVD's makes a Blu-ray release inevitable, and it shows forward thinking. In the end, it's also better for the consumer because we got better DVD's out of it, which is better for those not interested in another upgrade.

However, while I think CBS is trying to set a standard price for all their classic TV Blu-ray releases at $130, I think they are making a mistake aligning them to Star Trek. I think they would be better set to price these following the Image model with a list price of $100. It is much easier for vendors to get to the $50 sale price from $100 then $130. And I think $50 a season is the mark that will attract more buyers.

This is probably my second all time favorite show, and I think I am passing on this. Mayberry doesn't need to be "clearer" for me. Mayberry is the same whether I'm 10 watching on TV rabbit ears, 29 watching on VHS, or 49 watching on DVD. The characters and the stories are what it's about. Happy for all the fans who want this. I'm just not one of them. Maybe in the distant future when the Blu-Ray complete season set is on a fire sale, I might buy it. But I doubt it.

I never bought the Gomer Pyle series on dvd because of the reviews on Amazon that said there was alot of "cutting" of some of the singing by Jim Nabors. Same reason I never bought The Odd Couple sets. If either of these shows come to Blu-Ray (and I certainly hope they do) CBS should restore all the editing that was done with regards to music.

As for Andy Griffith and I Love Lucy I will definitely be buying these sets - just as I did Twilight Zone, Dick Van Dyke and Columbo when they came to Blu-Ray. Also can't wait for The Honymooners. Alot of these shows I never bought when they were initally released so it's a no brainer for me to buy them now that they're coming out on Blu.

I hope The Fugitive and McHale's Navy make it some day as well!

The Fugitive would seem like a no-brainer for BD release to me!

^ I was pretty doubtful that The Fugitive would come to Blu-ray but if they're doing The Andy Griffith Show and The Honeymooners, The Fugitive doesn't seem so unlikely to me anymore. That's not a knock against Andy or Ralph, it's just that a black and white sitcom (outside of I Love Lucy) doesn't seem like something that a studio would be all the interested in releasing.

It seems that CBS DVD's blu-ray series release pattern is somewhat mirroring their original DVD release slate, starting off with Honeymooners, Andy Griffith and I Love Lucy. This bodes well, if sales are good for these, for other shows they released on DVD early on, including MacGyver, Brady Bunch, Cheers and others.

For me, hopefully Hogan's Heroes. It was a very well shot show, one camera movie-style, which would look great on BD.

Those edits soured me on buying Gomer Pyle, Odd Couple and Cheers (except season 1). I can only hope the money from these $90 sets is going towards music licensing this time. I'd love to have Lucy and Andy in Blu-ray, but it's getting harder and harder to justify paying those prices.

No to Andy.

I've had one DVD on Lucy that skips on Season 1. But I already rebought S1 for that. I'm slow watching those, only season 2 I think... but if there are any more skippers I might replace those season with blu (or cheap DVDs). But otherwise, no on Lucy.

Yes to Gomer if they put those darn songs back where they are supposed to be! I'd love it if they had a trade in program on Gomer. Happily send the edited junk back to them!

Brady Bunch and Gilligan... yep! I'd buy complete blu sets in a minute! I already have s1 and 2 duplicates for Gilligan (planning to get s3 soon...) as backups. But I'd sell those in favor of blu!
