The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

Thanks Mike!  Once Upon a Time (thanks for releasing on Blu-ray Disney!), Harvey, Airport and Battleship.  Between Disney last week and Universal this week I am going to need to pick up a part time job!  I'd love Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, but I need to wait for a lower price.

I might (emphasis on "might") bite on Boardwalk Empire.  I haven't even seen the first season yet and chances are I won't get to watch any of it until 2013.  Otherwise, Battleship, Lucky One and Harvey are in the Netflix queue.

Thanks Mike!

Small correction -- the Once Upon a Time coupon from ABC is $15 for the Bluray season, $10 for the DVD season 1, and there is also $10 coupon left from last week on DVD S1 of Revenge. All the Universal 100th Anniversary releases still have $3 manufacturers coupon available, but it won;t help if nobody has them in stock Universal $3 Coupon Harvey Atonement A&C meet Frankenstein Scarface Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Sixteen Candles Airport Out of Africa

Those BB prices on the Boardwalk Empire S2 & Homeland S1 Blus are incredible. That's 56% and 65% off list, respectively. Add to that the $10 gift card if you buy both (and I plan to since both were on my list) and it's one of the great bargains of the year! Then I think I'll combine that with the $15 coupon to pick up Once Upon A Time S1 for $15!!

With deals like these and the fact that Amazon is now collecting sales tax for Texas residents I'm spending more money at Best Buy than I have in several years.

I'll probably hit up B&N for Quadrophenia as well.

Thanks for the Round-up, Mike!

Three truths about movies, as noted by Roger Ebert:

* It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

* No good movie is too long, and no bad movie is short enough.

* No good movie is depressing, all bad movies are depressing.

If you pick up those 3, it leaves you $0.03 short of the $25 GC (since the MQ should be considered as a payment). If you are on good speaking term with the manager, I'd try to talk them into bumping you up to the card, If they won't and you don't need another season, I'd consider buying some $5 DVD TV set and returning it later. The GC should be prorated so the $5 DVD set will return you a bit under $4.

I'll be picking up Boardwalk Empire: Season Two and I expected to wait for a sale on Sons Of Anarchy but $25 is good enough for me. Thanks for the prices, Mike! :)

Thanks as always for another comprehensive RoundUp, Mike.

The TV box sets on my reviewer's plate haven't arrived yet, but I can certainly recommend Homeland, Sons of Anarchy, and Once Upon a Time for their engrossing seasons. Once you start any (or all) of them, you'll be hooked.

Thanks Mike. Hopefully the lack of pricing for "Harvey" says more about the B&M stores' marketing practices than it does about their stocking practices. Because that's one I'll definitely pick up Tuesday if Best Buy or Target decide to stock it.

I know! I wasn't planning on picking up Homeland right now, but at Best Buy's price I might just have to. With HBO and Showtime titles, we're unlikely to do much better even when they come on sale (many months) down the road.

Is B&N running a 40% off sale on Criterions? I got some "20% off one item coupons" in the mail the other day, but this is the first I've heard about a 40% off deal. If that's the case, I'll for sure pick up Quadrophenia.

Things are starting to heat up release-wise. It looks like from now through the end of the year is going to be expensive for me. I'm looking at a couple of blind buys this week (Battleship & Once Upon A Time) and most likely, Airport. I also want Harvey and A&C Meet Frankenstein, but I'll wait for a better deal on those. For now, my old A&C DVD is serviceable enough. I may snag the Terminator collection since I don't have any of those on Blu and I have a $10 Reward Zone certificate I can use. If (per Tony's post) B&N is doing 40% off, then I'll grab Quadrophenia, too. Otherwise, I'll wait for their next 50% off sale. October 1 is looming large for me with Amazon UK pre-orders of Hitchcock and Universal Monsters. I...must...control...my spending...AARGH! Thanks, as always, for the RoundUp, Mike!

A clerk at Barnes And Noble told me yesterday that the sale was going to be 40% off of nearly all Blu-rays (not just Criterion) in two weeks. Maybe the guy is severely misinformed but that's what he told me. Honestly, his description sounds too good to be true so I'd say to take the information worth a grain of salt until there's some kind of confirmation.

All information indicates the 40% will be 8/28/2012 and run for a week. Another rumor has floated around about a possible month-long B2G1 starting 9/4 on Select Criterions, No more information though the poster usually is usually spot on for anything BN related "Buy 2 Criterion Collection Blu-rays, Get a 3rd Free Offer Details: This offer is in effect at BN.com from 12:00 a.m. EST September 4, 2012 to October 2, 2012, at 2:59 EST a.m., and at Barnes & Noble stores from September 4, 2012 to October 1, 2012 at close of business, while supplies last. I absolutely LOVE Double Indemnity (one of my all-time favorite movies) but am confused by the Amazon reviews.  Is this a re-issue of an older version with the digital copy tacked on?  I am seeing pretty consistent negative comments regarding the PQ.  Anyone have any help for me?
