I'm 3 episodes in to this new series and am so on the fence, I know this show was based on a series of Novels, the plots are fairly routine and not to difficult to figure out, the running storylines are obvious too, who did'nt know Longmire's Daughter would be dating his main Rival. But the actors are good from Longmire himself to BSG's Starbuck, although I'm not sure what pupose Lou Diamond Phillips really serves to the lot., I'll give it a few more eps but not sure I'm digging this one. I wish they would bring back Breakout Kings.

When do you think he will get a cell phone??. I haven't seen all the episodes yet as last Sunday's is still on my DVR, but it seems like if you ever miss an episode or two, you will not be left in the dark.

I've been watching Longmire and would tend to agree with Dave.
The plots have been fairly predictable although the nature of the relationship between Walt and Larry (? - the pizza guy) was a little surprising in the last episode. For me the big strengths of the series are Robert Taylor as the title character and the settings themselves. I kind of like seeing a procedural in a fresh (or at least different) setting. Including contemporary American Indians in the show also helps the series stand out a little bit. I'll watch Katee Sackhoff in just about anything and while I enjoy her character - it isn't exactly a stretch. Cassidy Freeman (from Smallville) is also a plus although I hope her character can have more screen time.
I believe that Season 1 will consist of 10 episodes and I plan to watch through the summer.
I"m pretty sure that Longmire won't be getting a cell phone anytime soon.

I've read a couple of the books that this series is based on, written by Craig Johnson -- they're pretty well done.
Also, I can't shake the feeling that, in an alternate universe, this is Harrison Ford's dive into network television. I'm digging Robert Taylor in the lead. He's about what I imagine a widowed Wyoming sheriff would be, and the last couple of installments were a dramatic improvement over the pilot episode. The mysteries have been interesting, and Longmire is like a cowboy Columbo.
His prowess at deduction was very much on display these weeks, as opposed to the first episode. And the secondary characters were better fleshed-out here, along with a few set-ups that seem intriguing that could play out over the season (his daughter's relationship with his deputy, and the story behind the mysterious scars on his back).
I appreciate Phillips as Standing Bear; he speaks just as the character from the books, no contractions, a strong sense of propriety. Hopefully he gets a little more screen time.
(Plus, since they film in New Mexico, there's always the chance Val Kilmer will do a guest spot.)

Giving credit where credit is due - Checking the comments on IMDB for Longmire, someone commented about how much they are enjoying Brett Favre in this series. :)
I do like the character development for the lead and hope that the other cast members are fleshed out as the series progresses.

I haven't seen the latest, but this show is nowhere near as good as it should be. The horse episode was full of boneheaded moments. Why would the mob hitman send out a hostage, who only served the purpose of getting Longmire up to speed. That whole scene seemed poorly handled.
Strangely, I have little use for Sackhoff, but she's alright here. Tiny doses, I guess. Though, having her strip for info was another head-shaking moment.

That played like a moment where a "suit" decided they needed to sex up the show a bit. Plus the scene where walt went in alone against the mob guy was dumb, every one else just waited outside so he could have a fight with the guy.

Season 2 Premiere a couple days ago. Somewhat of an odd episode again -- I enjoy this show overall, but there is always just something strange about how the show is put together. It's always like there are scenes cut out that make the continuity from scene to scene a bit disjointed.

I'm still enjoying the show for the most part, even if the opener for the 2nd season was not on par with any of the 1st season episodes. Still, I'm glad to see it back.

And I can't get past the fact that Longmire looks very much like Brett Favre. In fact, I sometimes refer to him as "Brett Favre look-alike". :)

The season ended this week, it was a very good season and I would recommend it for anyone that has not seen the show.It was A&E's highest rated show this year but no decision has been made yet on its' future.

Rather interesting back to back Season ending CliffHangers with The Glades and Longmire. I think The Glades seems to have reached the
end just from a story point though it certainly would be nice for them to resolve the Cliffhanger if it isn't picked up next season. I think the ratings
are pretty good, but it just seems to be spinning its wheels since the outstanding Season 1.

Longmire certainly has a nice 2nd season to build on. Not really a boring major character in the bunch and even the secondary characters
seem to be strong -- Branch's Father and Uncle make a great pair.

I would agree about Longmire, it was a good season overall with the story progressing from season one. Certainly hope it returns as it has become one of my favorite Summer shows for sure. There are more than a few things to wrap up so I'm hoping they announce a renewal soon.

It is going to be a long wait until next summer to see how some of the unresolved elements of the finale for season 2 play out.

Overall I enjoyed the second season quite a bit despite a few problematic story ideas / plotlines that did not resonate with me. In particular the recent development of a possible relationship between Walt and Vic (really feels out of place on this show) and the Vic / Ed Gorski storyline. One of the story ideas that I did like was how the election went into the background when Cady was injured. I thought that was handled really well. The main thread involving the death of the meth head who killed Walt's wife is of course still developing. I'm enjoying the twists and turns of that storyline.

For my money this is one of the best photographed shows on television (not in terms of attractive nature footage) but in terms of general cinematography (framing, lighting, shadows, symmetry, high contrast imagery, etc.) with the noir-ish episode Sound and Fury being one of the standouts for the season. (I always try to watch Longmire and Hell on Wheels on the front projector as they both seem to always deliver the goods visually.)

I'm glad to see that they seem to be redeeming Branch's character (and I really hope it is not a temporary situation.) One of the more subtle things I noticed in the season finale was Branch stopping to pick up a cigarette butt off the sidewalk. (Longmire is rubbing off on him, I guess.)

Given the shows ratings I'm sure season 3 will be here next summer. Looking forward to it.

- Walter.

I like this show very much and until I read this thread had not noticed how much Taylor looks like Farve. So what, he's a great actor, all the roles are well cast and have had some air time to get fleshed out a least a little. With the exception of the female office worker, the older lady. Can't remember her name. She's gotten the least air time.

I look forward to the next season of Longmire but The Glades has gotten boring. Haven't watched the season finale yet, but every episode has such a pattern: murder is discovered, Jim is called (usually interrupting personal time); Jim interviews suspect, accuses suspect of murder; repeat previous two steps 2-3 times; one of those repeated steps includes a very public arrest; Jim finally gets it right and makes an arrest and he always has backup only for the final arrest.

Throw in a few personal asides with Cady. There's your typical episode.

When I first started watching the show I kinda liked Jim's attitude, but now I think he's pretty much of an asshole. Don't know what's it's ratings are, but the quality sure drops from Longmire to the Glades.

Actually, the Walt and Vic relationship has been there from the start. I'm quite good at picking these things out and both did a good job acting in their looks. I was able to pick up the vibes between them, the glances, emotions, etc., essentially all the non verbal interaction between them. Neither one has ever verbally expressed anything, but you can observe the behaivor between the two and realize there is more to their feelings for each other than what either are saying. This is what led to Walt's current girlfriend saying what she did when she found Vic at Walt's cabin. She picked up on it and knows something is there but they are not going to come forward and express any of it.

I honestly didn't notice it in season one. They've always had good rapport, but I never thought of it in those terms; particularly since Longmire was still dealing with the effects of the loss of his wife. I'm probably the last person you want to consult about relationships though, so there you go. :)

Glad to see LONGMIRE back for a 3rd season.

Too bad THE GLADES may get the Ax. Its nothing special but it feels life
comfort food to me. I enjoy the mysteries and the way Jim handles himself.
But dislike the personal stuff.
