So, as a fan of film music, I'd love to talk more about the wonderful composers working in film, television, and other mediums today (and those who are no longer with us). I thought I'd try adding a few official discussion threads for certain composers to test the waters and see if there is interest enough on HTF.

I'm starting with Mark Snow because La La Land Records is now shipping copies of his Harsh Realm/Lone Gunmen score, two shows he worked on for Chris Carter (with whom he worked on scoring The X-Files and my personal favorite Millennium).

Here are the details about the new CD which is limited to 2000 copied (I got mine at Comic-Con).

THE LONE GUNMEN / HARSH REALM: LIMITED EDITION

LIMITED EDITION OF 2000 UNITS

ORDER “THE LONE GUNMEN / HARSH REALM: LIMITED EDITION” NOW! Autographed copies are no longer available.

Presenting the premiere release of acclaimed composer Mark Snow’s (THE X-FILES, SMALLVILLE, GHOST WHISPERER) original scores to the Chris Carter television series THE LONE GUNMEN, (spin-off of THE X-FILES), and HARSH REALM.  Aside from THE LONE GUNMEN’S infectious main theme, the spin-off series allowed Snow to creatively explore a variety of styles and genres in dynamic fashion, while HARSH REALM offered him an opportunity to take his trademark atmospherics into new areas of techno-sophistication and profound emotion.  Produced by Mark Snow and MV Gerhard, and mastered by James Nelson, this collection of music from two Mark Snow – Chris Carter TV collaborations is limited to 2000 units and features exclusive liner notes by Julie Kirgo.

For fans of Snow's X-Files music, a four-disc release of music from the series is planned for sometime in the fall. This planned release, unlike the CD The Truth and the Light (which contained music from seasons 1-3 of the show), will cover all seasons and won't have dialogue!

La-La Land has also hinted at a Volume 2, so that's great news for the fans, I would reckon.

The X-Files set - volume 1 - goes on sale today at 1pm PST - I will be ordering a copy and will post some thoughts (and pictures) when the set arrives (for those that might be interested). This is a set that I am exceedingly excited about getting my hands on (and Bear McCreary's SOCOM 4 score, which is released today as an expanded edition).

^ Thanks again for the heads up on this release, Neil. I most likely wouldn't have known otherwise (which, if it sells out, would have meant that I would have been hitting eBay). I thought this was just a pre-order so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's shipping already. Did you get an autographed copy? Since it was on sale for $10, I finally picked up The Lone Gunmen/Harsh Realm set too.

For some reason, when I posted this last night, my response was stripped from the post (I was at home using IE10). Let me try it again from work.

You are welcome, Travis. I was able to get an autographed copy of both this and Bear McCreary's SOCOM 4. La-La Land Records managed to crash both their site and Film Score Monthly's the moment they went live with the sales for this - that bodes very well.

If anyone ordered and isn't sure if they got a copy autographed by composer Mark Snow, you can check against the order numbers  - let me get them and post soon.

Woo hoo!! Order 36570! I scored an autographed copy!

I still remember how excited I was when "The Truth & The Light" came out. Finally, an album of Snow's outstanding X-Files music! Then I put it on and heard the dialogue. What??? Ok, surely this is just the first cut. But no, they never shut up throughout the entire album. What a massive disappointment that was! I love Duchovny, Anderson, et. al., but that album should have been about Mark Snow's music. I still wonder who thought releasing a score album full of dialogue VO was a good idea. Posted Image

So yeah, this has been a long time coming. I'm so glad LaLaLand is out there. I have the "Millennium" set they put out and it is awesome. I know this set will be equally so. Can't wait!!

Three truths about movies, as noted by Roger Ebert:

* It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

* No good movie is too long, and no bad movie is short enough.

* No good movie is depressing, all bad movies are depressing.

No., but until now I've never even heard of that film. I see from Wikipedia that it's adapted from an Alan Ayckbourn play. Based on that I will definitely have to check it out (the film & the score). In fact, I just added it to my Netflix streaming queue, so hopefully I'll have time to watch it this weekend. Thanks for the heads-up!

It's a solid score. Since you are a kindred fan of Snow's, I have an extra sealed copy of the score I would be happy to send to you - gratis - if you would like. Just pm me your address and I'll get it out to you.
