What I mean is what's the best way to put a little bit of text on the edges of your digital photos to try and mark them as your own, with copyright/year on them?

I think you'd be safe just putting your name in a very vidsible spot. All photgraphs are copyright the "photographer anyways, but you could just photoshop it on the photo.

Any freeware that can do the same as Photoshop when it comes to marking photos? I usually just use IRFan for quick-n-dirty image changes (crop/resize/brighten/darken/etc), but it doesn't seem to be able to mark photos.
