There's a girl...in my bed. YES! (quote from Casper)

[c]Posted Image[/c]

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definate price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a five-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

* BE CAREFUL! Babe - Special Edition, Babe 2-Film "Pig Pack", Casper, & Holes are all available in both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions...get the correct one.

* Non-OAR discs are left off the Roundup, whenever they've been identified in advance. Example: The Watchers/Watchers 2 Double-Feature. This does NOT apply to markdowns, which are simply cut-and-paste from other lists.

* Best Buy: NOTE that Smallville - Season 1 is shown in their flyer to be $49.99, but their on-line price at BestBuy.com is shown to be $43.99! I can't explain this, so I am guessing that this means that either there is a special online-only price (which you can get by doing the online purchase and choosing the in-store pickup) or else there will be different prices in different regions of their chain. I suspect the latter, since they are doing a LOT of this recently.

* Best Buy: Save $5 instantlly with combined purchase of Holes & Daddy Day Care.

* Circuit City: Save $6 instantly with combined purchase of the Holes DVD & CD soundtrack.

The latest markdowns according to DavisDVD (there may be some duplication of above, but read through it anyway):
-------------------------
EFFECTIVE 9.23.03
Artisan Glengarry Glen Ross, The Shaft, Standing in the Shadows of Motown 14.98
Columbia 84 Charing Cross Road, Agnes of God, Angels Over Broadway, Avalon, Pal Joey, Taming of the Shrew, all Three Stooges discs 19.95
Columbia Limbo 24.95

Disappointing discounts for Smallville. With only a $65 retail price I was hoping to see more prices closer to $40. (But then I don't think the B5 discounts were all that great either, so maybe it is a WB thing.) Maybe BJs will come through. I'm hoping that the local WalMart will have Holes for $14.63. I noticed in an advertisement on TV that the Holes DVD they showed there was fullscreen. I hope widescreen is not hard to find.

I thought They Live was supposed to come out on 10/7/2003, along with Prince of Darkness?

I don't see They Live in Best Buy's online circular.
Universal Blu-ray Discs I will not be buying while they're offered only as Blu-ray + DVD 'flipper' discs:

The Jackal
, Out of Africa, and Traffic.

$42.99 at Costco, $43.99 at Best Buy (maybe), and probably a decent price at most Wal-Marts. Not too far away from what you wanted.

I hope that Scrooge and The Homecoming: A Christmas Story to show up at Wal-Mart for $9.63 just like several did (Leap of Faith, Nobody's Fool, Losing Isaiah, I.Q., and Regarding Henry) a couple of weeks ago.

Best Buy simply didn't advertise it, being a low-expectation reissue of a catalog title. I strongly doubt it's found in-stores very quickly, except maybe at Borders and Tower Records. Same for Serpent & The Rainbow, unless they both tag along in drop-shipments of the Babe films. But no doubt about it, I'm looking at Universal press materials right now, and 9/23 is definately the street date.

Does anyone know if there are any tie in deals if you buy A Mighty Wind and any other Christopher Guest movie (like Waiting for Guffman or Best in Show)?

Dave,

I should know better than to doubt you. Posted Image

Thanks for the information, do you know what the status of Prince of Darkness is? Does it have a 9/23 street date as well.

Thanks a lot.

Prince of Darkness is 10/7, as is the Carpenter Collection.

Galen, you're looking for this, but due to time I wasn't able to include it in the Roundup; sorry.

Galen, something else to check is that Best Buy is selling "Best in Show" and "Guffman" for $12.99 each this week. "Wind" is $17.99 which means all 3 can be had for $43.97 which is a couple bucks cheaper than Amazon's price above.

Also, as an FYI Sam's Club is selling season 1 of Lucy for $67.77 which is way, way cheaper that most other places. I don't know about Costco since there's no stores in my area.

Does anyone know they difference between the version of They Live? I have two of the OOP one, and I don't know if anything is different.

Oh yeah, what about the Serpent and Rainbow... I have the previous version as well, anything new or is this just a re-release?

Thanks,
