For example, BestPriceAudioVideo.com has great prices on their recievers, but at the end of the model number a (B) is shown. what does that represent?

Probably B-stock: refurbs, returns, scratch 'n dents.

They should be fine in terms of electronic performance, but they are somehow returned or repaired.

The "B" stock fairy tail refused to die ...
As long as it is a close box and you bought it from
authorized dealer you are fine.

Thanks LiorM. I thought it was a refurb or something, but after opening it it looked fresh from the factory, and it was black! :)
