It says DTS yet no DTS option?? (1 Viewer)

Watching the DRUMLINE DVD, I was going to the end of the credits to see who they give special thanks to and at the very end I happen to see "DTS" right next to the DD symbol.

Well I checked "as I do with all my DVD's" before I began playing it and it only gave DD 5.1. After I saw this in the credits I checked again and I even checked in the special features.

No DTS feature. Is this something thats normal? Why would they have it in the end credits if its not in the DVD?

I'm just confued I guess.

They have it on the credits, as DTS would have been a soundtrack option avaialble to the movie theaters (just like Sony's SDDS is often found on movie credits, but has no home system available).

Presence of a DTS soundtrack at the theater doesn't guarentee a presence on the DVD.

Culled from what I've learned from the htf:

The manner in which DVDs are presented do not always coincide with the manner in which the movie was presented in theatres.

Somebody produces the movie for theatre consumption while somebody else produces the movie for home theatre consumption taking into account any number of factors including space availability and a desire to not compromise image quality, and so on.

Sure, I understand that whats on at the movie theaters isn't exactly what we get on DVD.

So why even put the stuff in the credits at the end of the DVD?

Not sure if my first post was confusing or not, but I was talking about strictly on the DVD not what was seen at the movie.

So if they know there only going to put 5.1DD on the DVD,why include the rest of the stuff on the credits at the end of the DVD.

Because those are the original theatrical credits. Why bother redoing a theatrical master just to remove a DTS logo?

The DTS credit is shown at theaters even if it wasn't played with a DTS soundtrack at that theater. It's kind of like on TV when they say "presented in sterio where avaliable."

A lot of those sound logos even used to have "where available" in teeny tiny letters underneath the logo.

As Adam says, they're not going to re-edit the credits just to match what may or may not be available for sound on the DVD.

Check every one of your movies made post-Jurassic Park and MANY will have DTS logos... it's simply available that way to the theatres (and therefore was in the prints as a credit).
