At least the Brits have the good sense to be apologetic for their imperialistic past. Two years ago the French legislature voted in favor of a law requiring that high school curricula extol the virtues of Colonialism. You can imagine that didn't go to well in the ex-colonies. In a rare display of common sense, then president Chirac rescinded the law ;).

Imperialism wasn't all bad. It gave the world a common language for instance. English is spoken just about everywhere now because of the Brits and their Empire. But I wouldn't want to be a subject of that Empire or any other for that matter.

The voices on that BBC page are just fantastic!

As far as empires go, the Brits did a hell of a lot better job than the other European powers did.
