Gojira The Bride With White Hair Suspiria - kind of tough That Obscure Object of Desire - very tough, I could go either way on this one.
Jim, as I recall your rules, we are supposed to be voting on the film that is the most "fun". Metropolis has never said "fun" to me. It's a pretty serious film unless you're a giant Queen fan.
I've never seen the version that Queen scored in the 80's. I'm basing my judgment on the restored & re-scored Kino version that just came out. To me Metropolis is a very entertaining film as a pulpy Sci-fi fable.
It's interesting that judging by some of the other votes/comments the majority of people equate "fun" as lightweight, fluff, comedy, satire, etc.
I just don't see it that way. To me a film can be serious & entertaining at the same time.
Doesn't really matter as I'm not voting anyway. I'm just the stooge counting the votes.
Gojira over Akira 8-0 (I think both are entertaining yet serious.) To those who voted for Godzilla because it was more lightweight I'm guessing that you haven't seen the original Japanese Language version which is very sombre in tone compared to the edited American version.
Band of Outsiders over Mad Max 3-1 (Another outcome that irks me. :frowning: )
The Bride With White Hair over City on Fire 1-0
Shall We Dance? & Spirited Away tied 1-1
The Hidden Fortress over Suspiria 3-2
Mon Oncle over That Obscure Object of Desire 3-1
