Looks like I'm very late for the party, but -

The Empire Strikes Back

Looking back at the master list, the only titles I'd rate as improvements (from the ones I've seen, about 50%) are Bride of Frankenstein, TESB above, and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Aliens and Trek II I also like better, but that's a matter of preferred genre not filmmaking.

Surprised that "Frankenstein Must be Destroyed" didn't make the list - head and shoulders over the other Hammer Frankensteins (I suppose though you were looking at the first sequels).
