Vaughan Williams "A Sea Symphony" Telarc SACD--this disc sounds amazing, among the very best classical SACDs I've heard.

Alison Krauss+Union Station "Live" Rounder SACD--easily my favorite AK+US SACD out there, brilliantly recorded ("direct to DSD"). Very highly recommended.

Simon & Garfunkel "Bookends" MFSL Gold Disc (on CD-R)--not just the finest MFSL I've yet heard, but the finest of any Simon and Garfunkel album (on CD) I've heard. And it just happens to be my favorite of their releases.

jesse malin's the fine art of self destruction
caitlin cary's i'm staying out
and i bought daniel lanois' shine for a friend: the best album of 2003 so far

rich: is the MSFL Bookends significantly better than the recent remastered CD (Columbia Legacy, or something like that)?; i was floored by the remaster c/w the older Redbook CD version--hadn't heard Bookends sound that good before

Recently:

White Stipes - "Elephant". I could only resist so long ...

Stereolab - "ABC Music - BCC Radio One Sessions". some very very very off-key singing on disc #2 is offset by some very cool stuff like "Moogie Wonderland" and "Anemie" on disc #1

Monade - "Socialisme ou Barbarie". Laetitia Sadier's solo thang. Very understated & spartan. Pretty good so far.

Arab Strap - "Monday Night at the Hug and Pint". More songs about drinking, fighting, getting drunk, screwing, breaking up, making up, drinking, fighting, drinking and did I mention drinking ? Enjoying it a lot !

I remember comparing the Remaster with the Mofi. The Mofi sounded a little smoother and less bright.. some may prefer the remaster on their sysytemsears. Anyway I prefered the Mofi, but they both sounded good and the difference wasn't that much.
I also have the Columbia Mastersound Gold (on CD-R) of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters", but it is definitely NOT worth seeking out. It's only the second Mastersound disc I've heard, but I've not liked either one of them (specifically, I prefer my original "CBS" release of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" to the Mastersound version).

On used CD I got Calexico's BLACK LIGHT and Wilson Pickett's THE ESSENTIALS

ON new CD I got Madonna's AMERICAN LIFE

On SACD I got Bob James IN HI-FI which sounds good but does it rival the vinyl? Questionable? I got MAN OF THE WORLD: REFLECTIONS ON PETER GREEN which is a various artists tribute to the man behind the original Fleetwood Mac. It's not as good as listening to Peter Green but there's a nice variety of his contemporaies giving it a shot. Sound quality, very average for SACD.

I know I said, in the Kinks thread, that I wasn't going to buy LOW BUDJET but I did. This isn't my favourite period of the Kinks but I kind'a like it. Furthermore, this is a really hot sounding stereo SACD. I was amazed how good it sounds even on my SCD-775. It really blazed on my XA777! It contains 3 bonus cuts that are extended mixes of, arguably, the 3 best songs. I've decided to buy all or most of the new Mobile Fidelity releases as I feel they'll become very collectable. BTW, 3 more Kinks albums are in the MF pipeline. LOW BUDJET is a totally bitchin' disc! :emoji_thumbsup: I hope the others measure up to this one.

Picked up every Gabriel SACD that my local Best Buy had: "So", "Shaking the Tree", and "Passion". I've reviewed in several other threads, so I won't repeat it here.... but I think my neighbors will be happy when the newness of these wears off, as I do believe Tony Levin's bass is reaching through the walls and rearranging the kidneys and bladders of anyone within range!
