No speech out of the center speaker (1 Viewer)

I get great sound from my Pioneer d711 through the tv and all 5 speakers. I also get great sound when I stream Netflix or Movies from my PC. But...when I play certain DVDs (Disney Productions mostly, Pirates of C, Mad Max etc) I get music through the center front speaker but no voice from the actors. The Disney disk all have Dolby Digital and THX on them and these are the ones that have no speech from. I thought since the d711 is older it my not be THX capable or some such thing. I know it has Dolby Digital. I have some setting set incorrectly I am sure but the manual is vague or I am not getting it. Any ideas?

Do you have the DVD player set to Downmix to 2.0 by accident?

Yes I did. I also had pushed the signal select button my accident. These tiny buttons are killing me. thanks a bunch
