Perhaps we already know the answer to this.
We do. It costs $1.00-1.20 all-in for even an audiophile CD (where there are lower costs) to be produced. For major releases, the per disc cost is materially below a dollar.

Now some dollars do accumulate for artist's royaltees but usually not more than a few bucks. Tower and other distribution points take a cut.

Clearly you can see how much lower CD prices can be.
