I bought a house with a home theater system.
Denon 5600 (I think no DTS)
Toshiba 2109
Runco Projector
my 2109 is connected to the Denon with analog jacks and set up as Dolby ProLogic.
Can this be set up with a Digital Coax?
I am not sure if the 2109 has a built in decoder.
Can I upgrade the 2109 to get Digital audio?
Still learning so thanks for your patience.

Yes the Denon AVR 5600 can use digital coax also digital optical.
The digital inputs are 100% assignable to the source input.
You would need to use the on-screen setup to assign these.
As for dts, check the back of the 5600, if it was one of the few that has dts, you should find a small white tag on the back that states 5600dts.
If the tag is there or if you pop the lid off, if you look near the front-top for a small board that has the dts chip.
The 5600dts has NO led on the front that displays a dts logo when a dts signal is being used, just leave the AVR in dolby digital 5.1 mode and the dts processor takes over.
This was a in pruduction run change that denon made for only a few months in late 98 just prior the the 5700.

Thanks for the response.....no DTS in the Denon.
Can I get better sound using a Digital Coax or shound I just leave it with the Analog jacks?
Is there any reason to upgrade the 2109?
If I can use the digital coax, what whould be the best audio setting?

Use a Digital connection with the DVD player for Dolby Digital 5.1 playback or even Dolby Digital 2.0
If you only have two front speakers, still use the digital connection as the DACs in the AVR 5600 are very good.
Do you have the user's guide to this 5600?
Here is a page with some nice info on the AVR-5600
It maybe worth your while to save it before it's gone.
