Ugh, I'm not sure I like this variation. It's not the same anymore. "Word to YOUR mother" has that slap to your face element to it. It's like saying, "tell your momma that I said hi. I might come by again to tap that ass."

Hunter your right. To use it like that is half in ya face, and half that's the truth. As in I'll even tell it to yo mama. It all comes from "word up" meaning true.

The same here, "Word" is used, but draweled a bit different.

LaMarcus is correct and "Word up" is completely different meaning than "Word ta Motha" (not used as much here) but

East coast though still holds it. Damn latest Wu-Tang, had "word up" on it along with "word is bond."

"Back in the Day"

Amazing the cross-culture here, current slang a mix of Hip-Hop and skate.

Has anyone heard the term "The American Bald Eagle" to refer to a well shaven woman undercarriage?
