Hi, just invested in a new HT consisting of

Fronts are Status S30s and the centre is status sc 2.
The sub is a Gale S30 3070 and the rears are Gale 3060B

The amp is the Yamaha HTR-5630RDS.

I'm having a hell of a time making it so that my sub doesn't make farting noises (it also sounds a bit like a car exhaust) when there is excessive bass on a 5.1 soundtrack.
I either got not nearly enough bass or far too much.
My question is how do I set the frequency, level, phase so that I get good base without this painful sounding farting noise.
I've tried trial and error, but I get different results with different films.
I don't really want to have to adjust it for every film
Also, what is the best way to set the amp's settings regarding the sub and bass generally.

Thanks very much in advance,

Mike Woods

make sure:
- speakers set to small
- crossover frequency @ 80..
- enhanced bass OFF (sends bass to speakers AND sub
- read your subs manual for setting the phase, ss, etc filters
- make sure you r not running some weird DSP mode, like hall, dance, concert, ourdoor, etc..
- check room acoustics
- check sub location
- spl meter your output
- use avia or S&V or Video Essentials bass test dvds...
- Borrow/buy equalizer, if needed...
