Aw shoot, I just noticed this tourney. There were so many good films, this should be a good one. 64 sounds great to me, there were far more good ones than that, there won't be any trouble getting that many.
Nominate:
The Hours
Real Women Have Curves
The Man From Elysian Fields
Second:
Rabbit-Proof Fence
About Schmidt
Talk To Her
Third:
Sunshine State
Far From Heaven
Punch-Drunk Love

List updated.

Travis,

Sum of all Fears was already nominated so I counted your nom as a second.

JenB,

Re: MIBII - You can't third your own nomination so you still have another third to use.

We have 17 films in so far, 47 more to go. I'll hand out 4 more noms, seconds and thirds for everyone who's participated so far.

Well, most of these I wouldn't consider "best", but since we're shooting for 64....

White Oleander
The Transporter
The Emperor's Club
The Rookie

Second:
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (not Sorceror's Stone!)
8 Mile
Insomnia

Third:
Solaris
Blade II
Gangs of New York

JenB,
:b Sorry my mistake. I'm blaming it on the self inflicted brain damage I suffered in my youth. :D
To make it up to ya I'll give you an automatic/Nomination

No problem, Jim. All I ask is that you correct my silly mistake on the title of the current Harry Potter in the list so that it reads Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. :b

A lot of people won't be seeing some of these movies for a while. There are going to be a lot of abstentions. I saw well over 100 movies in the theater last year, and I haven't seen several on the nominated list. We might want to re-do this tourney in a couple or so months.
Nominate:
Changing Lanes
Chicago
The Pianist
Frida
Second:
Adaptation
Below
Possession
Igby Goes Down
Third:

13 Conversations About One Thing
Lovely and Amazing
Ice Age
Resident Evil

Second:
Die Another Day
It was ok-not as good in many ways though as many other Bond films although Pierce is nice to look at, esp. once they shaved him in this one. ;)

You could be right. It seems the majority of HTF members aren't major theater-goers like yourself. Bunch of shut-ins I'm guessing. ;) I'm starting to think that this Tourney was a bit premature.
I'll leave this up until Monday night. Everyone now has enough Noms, seconds & thirds to get us well past 64 films. If we still aren't close to that mark by Monday I'll let this sucker die.
I have another possibly better Tournament idea anyway. :D
