You should have seen the looks when my friend mentioned we saw "The Triplets of Belleville." They thought it was a porno. :)

I do understand what you mean though. It's the primary reason I "hang out" here - it's the only place I find common ground with people entertainment-wise. Even if the interests aren't the same at least there is some familiarity.

Wow these numbers are truly crushing. Futon Critic states that they're exactly half the numbers AD opened last season with. We've all done eveything we could to try and make people pay attention but it clearly isn't going to happen. I just hope they at least let this season play out, but I'm not counting on it. The thought of no more AD is very saddening.

If FOX really thinks this show is the next 'Seinfeld' they should move it in January and put it on after the 'American Idol' results show. This strategy has worked wonders for 'House' and '24' and if AD fails to draw in that time slot then I don't know what else FOX could do. On a side note, does anybody know what the Season 1 DVD sales were like?

Had to watch it a second time to catch some of the lines I missed as I was cursing at my Replay for f**king up again.

"Why don't you pop a tent in front with your cousin Maebe?"

Fox's "Arrested Development" lost the veneer of Emmy winner when it was topped by "Everybody Loves Raymond" for the best comedy trophy Sunday. Now it may have lost hope. The season premiere of the critically praised comedy drew only 4.6 million people on Fox. The network's "Prison Break" shows promise on Monday; the comedies are hurting.

The only way in which Raymond is superior to Arrested is that on the former the actors stand around mugging for several seconds after every joke to allow the viewers to join the laugh track in a chuckle. On Arrested Development there would be two more funny lines, a comment from the narrator, a hilarious little musical cue and a couple of bits of business going on in the background during that same three seconds.

The moral of this is that apparently comedies aren't supposed to be too funny. In other words, the Emmy doesn't say "Funniest Show on Television" so it shouldn't go to Arrested Development. I'm with PhilCo, it's hard to see the events of the past few days as anything but a stake through the heart of my favorite show. Most likely, it's a terrible omen for "big funny", expensive, quality comedies since the audience just isn't there.

FOX has to know that whatever they would replace Arrested Development with, it's ratings won't be any better.

They should try a sitcom on at 8 followed by an hour long drama at 8:30 then another sitcom at 9:30 and see if the ratings would be better.

They need to do something. I say run it through the week for a few weeks behind or after 24 or another good ratings show.
Im telling everyone about this show and have gotten alot of peole to watch it. I find it hard to believe the ratings are still not going up.

I don't know about putting an hour long drama at a half hour point, I think too many people would get confused. I don't watch shows that are already half way in and if people are just clipping through the channels they may think it's half over and move on. (As a side note, I understand if you're on a Satellite that it generally tells you what the times the show starts and stops.)

But it's sad to hear that A.D. didn't do that well in the ratings, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. I think it should move to HBO or maybe Comedy Central.

I dont have either one of those channels. :frowning:

I just thought of the blue hand marks on the back of Kitty's head and finally realized the joke. I cant believe I let that one slip by.

"tuna melts up, and you need to flip the cushions in the grind room."
"Great, now im going to smell to high heaven like a tuna melt."
:D

Lots of dirty jokes in this episode.
My favorite was still Michael suggesting Gearge Michael rubbing off on maebe. I had to pause the Tivo for that one.

I think a strong hour long show, like 24, on at 8:30 would do well and if Arrested Development was the lead in, it would get some new viewers.

Arrested Development at 8pm for me is fine because it's not up against anything I like. But MNF will always get a majority of viewers, King of Queens is the closest thing to Raymond, so they will get his old viewers, and Surface (at least for the first week) got all the ScFi geeks (no offense).

I can't help but think the show would do a lot better on FX (or NBC/ABC/CBS for that matter).

Fox just needs to advertise it more and give it a strong lead in for a while so people will be forced to watch it and realize the brilliance of AD.:D

Hell it worked for Just Shoot Me. They had that show slotted in between Friends and Will and Grace and it did very well. I dont think anyone really cared for the show but it was on between two good ones, so automatic ratings.

They can buy a 60-minute reality show for a third of what 30 minutes of Arrested Development costs them. So they can replace it with "Registered Sex Offender House" or some other piece of prurient unscripted garbage that gets even the same low ratings as Arrested and still come out ahead.

I think the issues many of are missing here, is not that Fox isn't doing enough for AD- rather it's FOX! Sorry to say, but nothing half intelligent ever lasts on the FOX of today. Do you think a show like Curb Your Enthusiam would have ever lasted on FOX ?(assuming language and content wasn't an issue). I doubt it, it probably would have been cancelled after the first season. People don't want to watch smart, well written comedies. Rather they want the 19th season of the Simpsons, the fart jokes of Family Guy, or yes, some reality show starting a Brady bunch actor. It's amazing AD's lasted as long as it has.

On HBO (or something similar) AD could flourish - but unfortuntlety it's on FOX.
