The change of menus to be more transparent is for me the single worst change in Leopard. I find it chronically difficult to read menus now that the menu text is competing with text and images under it. There's a reason books are printed on translucent vellum...

Are there any good hacks to restore Leopard menus to Tiger-like style?

Thanks for the tips, Daryl, but it's actually the drop down menus I'm after. The translucent menu bar is tolerable. But the drop down menus are just hard to read now.

(such an odd design feature for Apple, which historically is about improving usability, not damaging it)

Leopard's taken a step backwards IMO in this regard. There's some wonderful new features but the transparency and badly resizing finder windows are mistakes as far as I'm concerned.
