I bought my 65" Mitsu on January 1, so the first HD experience was The Game. Even though i don't really care about sports, I was blown away by the detail in the broadcast.

My first BD wow was Bladerunner. As soon as the Tyrell Corp building came on, I paused it, loaded the DVD in my old player, played both and kept swapping back and forth, spouting nonsense to my wife! Even she was amazed.....

First - Phantom of the Opera HD-DVD (Z3 720p FP) several years ago.

Second - Nightmare Before Christmas Blu-ray (Epson 1080 UB 1080p FP), this was just two days ago, I got this PJ last week.

"The Road Warrior" on Blu. Seeing the texture of the road and the details I had never seen before, like REALLY being able to read all the signs and things.

Blew the old DVD away and had me sold.

I would have to say TV's "Lost" or a few of the HD video discs out there. HD on most film based material I see doesn't really snap at all to me contrary to what I've read in various columns.

I haven't been blown away by the video yet, but have been impressed by the audio. Sure I can see more and better, but not being a close-sitter nor using a PJ I'm kinda cavalier about it all, more of a nice incremental improvement.

What DID blow me away was Blade Runner in SD and not upscaled (yes, I have the BD set too), and a couple other recents in SD. Now they were a big WOW, compared to what we used to get...

Nothing will ever replace the initial WOW feeling I got as I watched the Dish demo channel on my first HDTV back 8 years ago. I'm reserving a smaller "wow" moment, I hope, for my soon to be viewing of How the West was Won in smilebox mode.

^ Yeah, that might be IT for me based on what I've read here. Unfortunately, I stupidly ordered this BD in Canada instead of in the U.S. as usual, without noticing it's not released here until 2 weeks later (i.e. next week)...

I've just got my new 1080P set eight days ago, so it's still new to me.
I'd decided that Blade Runner would be the first movie I watched on the set, and any doubts I had about my purchase vanished right from the start. It's extraordinarily good - and the great thing about the film is that it has so many sequences where they just stop and show you the city, so you can just sit and soak in the HD picture. Incredible.

Planet Earth for me, only because it's the first title I bought and watched on BD. It has since irked me with it's switching back and forth between HD and SD, as well as various picture quality problems. Still one of the must-have nature documentaries if you're into that genre, but PQ isn't the best.

Casino Royale was the real eye-opener though. Nevermind that it's the best Bond movie ever, the picture quality was stunning.

I'm glad HD is still new to me. I still marvel at how crisp text looks in end-credits
