I don't know if anyone here listens to many podcasts (I don't really) but I was turned on to one called You Must Remember This. The show focuses mostly on the stars of classic era Hollywood and it's excellent. I know the actors and their movies and maybe some of the broad strokes of their lives but with 30 to 40 minute episodes, I'm learning lots of interesting, funny or sad info about classic Hollywood stars.

There's episodes on Val Lewton, Judy Garland and Bogey & Bacall, etc. but she tends go for multi-episode series on Joan Crawford, Howard Hughes' girlfriends, the stars did during the war, the golden age at MGM, the black list and even Charles Manson's connections to Hollywood.

I'm sure it's on iTunes and the show's website is here: http://www.youmustrememberthispodcast.com/

I'm a big fan of this one. Her 10 part series on the Manson murders is as definitive account of the era as anything I've read. I'm all caught up to the end of the Blacklist. Catching up on other podcasts before diving into the Joan Crawford series. I find I enjoy binging the series with this one as opposed to listening to an episode a week.

On a similar but different note: The Rialto Report is the definitive podcast on the golden age of porn that is just as facinating, featuring interviews with the people who where there. NSFW, obviously.

I'm about halfway through the Manson episodes. I've read Helter Skelter so I've got a working knowledge of the Manson family and I know a fair amount about the 1960's in general but even with that, the Manson series is still informative (I didn't know how bad things got for Dennis Wilson into the 70's and 80's), very compelling and scary.

How does the Manson murders fit into a classic movie podcast?

I listened to a little of this podcast and it just seemed like she was in love with her own voice. It was too affected. Maybe I should give it another try.

This is like science fiction. People are discussing with each other from diffferent time areas like it's nothing!

Yes, I'm a big podcast fan as I'm on the road a lot and they are great for listening to while driving. This is the one that comes up the most when I search for podcasts on the web and it seems to get the most praise as everybody includes it on their "must listen to" lists. It was actually one of the first few podcasts I stumbled upon. I did listen to the earlier episodes but have not been back to check in with it in a while.

The Movies that Made Me podcast with Josh Olsen and Joe Dante you introduced me to I really love and have listened to every episode. Obviously I really enjoy that Josh and Joe have the same feelings about movies and where things have gone with the industry as I have...so I get a lot of laughs and head nodding in agreement with much of what they say. Plus they are just great hosts and Joe, while he is quiet and listens a lot, throws in with some fantastic comments that come from his vast knowledge and love of film.

The one that really kicked off my podcast listening was The Projection Booth which is a bit more focused on genre stuff and delves into more obscure areas but the discussions are generally wonderful and a lot of fun if they are talking about something you share an interest in.

What I have found is there seems to be an abundance of podcasts but many of them are not great. As an example, I listened to a podcast where three or four guys discussed the films of John Ford...which is what drew me to the podcast...but rather than seeming to have great knowledge of the films or bringing on guests that did, they proceeded to savage every one of his pictures.

I'm always on the hunt for good podcasts and I wanted to start, or thought there was at one point here, a thread on movie podcasts but perhaps I am wrong.

Can a few of you list your top movie themed podcasts? There are so many don’t know where to start. Have already subscribed to a few in this thread.

The Rialto Report - golden age of porn podcast, they have a new co-produced series on Traci Lords that called Once Upon A Time in the Valley that is supposed to be really good, Katrina from YMRT plugged it on her twitter.

Pure Cinema Podcast depending on the guests.

Post Mortem with Mick Garris is a great horror themed interview podcast.

I've heard good things about the Movies That Made Me pod that Reggie mentioned but not sat with it yet.

Are there any good sci/fi/horror podcasts? So many of them are 2 (or more) guys sitting around shooting the breeze with seldom an interesting thing to say.

Seems like every neck beard with a DVD collection has a podcast. I couldn't tell you how many I listened too where they thought classic horror started with Halloween and 80's slashers. That's why I stick to Mick Garris. Not your best bet for new movie round ups, but he has some great interviews with some icons.

I'm not a huge podcast guy but The Movies That Made Me and You Must Remember are the two that I've listened to the entire catalog of.

The lead off episode of The Movies That Made Me had Miguel Arteta talking about his love of Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls and I realized that I had found something for me. What's great about that show is that you get to hear about a movie that you're happy someone else digs or you hear about something that you might not have seen but that's cool. The wildest episode is Thomas Jane talking about 1960's French crime dramas. I've seen most movies that people talk about on the show or I've certainly heard of nearly all of them but Jane blew me away with his knowledge. That being said, basically every other episode is much accessible than his. The recent episode with Tuppence Middleton was a winner because she had some dark & more obscure picks and she was just a fun guest.

Thanks to my fascination with 1970's pornography and love for The Deuce, I've been meaning to listen to The Rialto Report. I've listened to the Pure CInema Podcast when Tarantino has popped up.

I wish a guy that was a true expert on the golden age of Universal horror and sci-fi movies like Tom Weaver had a podcast and just talked about those movies and utilized his years of research. Yeah, I realize that he'd probably be repeating info from his books (that he understandably wants you to buy) but a podcast from an expert on those movies would be amazing to me.

The next best thing to a Tom Weaver podcast are his commentaries. Well researched and he hardly takes breather.

I also like that he's willing to point out the shortcomings of movies that he's giving commentary on. A couple of his commentaries on the Scream Factory's Universal Horror Collections are better than the movie.
Which ones has he done a commentary on?

Looking at Shout's website, he's on:

Universal Horror Collection Volume 1: The Invisible Ray
V3: Man Made Monster
V4: Night Key
V5: The Monster And The Girl and Captive Wild Woman
V6: The Black Castle, Cult Of The Cobra and The Thing That Couldn't Die

EDIT: I'm guessing you've heard of Weaver's (and co-writers) books called Universal Horrors (focusing on every horror movie Universal put out from 1931 to 1946), The Creature Chronicles (focusing on the three Creature From The Black Lagoon movies) and Universal Terrors (focusing on Universal's sci-fi/horror movies from 1951 to 1955) but if not, they're the best books that will probably ever be written on the topics.

Don't know if this will scratch your itch, but podcasts I enjoy...

I think Cine-Files was recommended here on HTF. I listen occasionally. Again, check their index and try an episode that looks interesting to you.

Search the topic index at The Incomparable and try an episode to see if you like their style. Sometimes they focus on a single movie, sometimes it's a grab bag with a movie mentioned in passing. (When they talk movies, this is all things geek pop culture, really):
