One of those lesser known actors who always contributed to whatever project in which he was cast. Some fairly memorable characters in his work with Eastwood. Particularly his ferryman Sim Carstairs in The Outlaw Josey Wales. I guess when you dealt with Confederate and Union forces it was handy to know I Wish I Was in Dixie Land and The Battle Hymn of the Republic. Carstairs' shifting allegiances was always one of my favorite moments in Josey Wales.

R.I.P. Mr. O'Connell.
