Delightful and spirited Hawks film despite, as The NY Times notes:

”Well, [the sheriff - Mr.Wayne] has the services also of Ricky Nelson, youngest member of a performing family that has made its mark on the twenty-one-inch screen, as a self-appointed good right arm.Mr. Nelson is a nice but terribly expressionless youth who appears to need a haircut and can pleasantly sing a spirited Western ditty to the accompaniment of his own guitar and Mr. Martin's mellow baritone. But he is a mite callow either as a convincing actor or as a fast man on the draw. “

Aside from that, can’t wait!

No. I got them confused.
It’s late and I’m tired.

I mixed up the info I was given in the deals topic.

Ah, I thought you were being ironic, as most of the 4K releases seem to be coming from Kino these days (in fact, most catalogue releases). Anyway, great news, & well done Warner.

Not my favourite western, but if the 4K release has a much improved picture, then I'll give it another go (I'm a big Duke fan). It'll be interesting to read what Robert Harris thinks of it. A new 4K Rio Bravo plus Land Of The Pharaohs, Howard Hawks is doing well lately...keep 'em coming.

The blue highlights in Mr. Martin’s hair are gone. The earlier c. 2007 master was produced with a partially collapsed Y dye layer.

To be honest, I watched some of this on HBO MAX in 4K Dolby Vision and was disappointed. I thought it would look much better. Hope the disc fares better. One of my favorite westerns.

Have you watched the old Blu-ray lately? When going back and forth between the two sources, you can really see the improvements.

I love everything about this film. Along with THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE, my favorite Western. I never got it on Blu, so I can't wait to get the 4K disc!

I’ve never seen Rio Bravo, but I do know Angie Dickerson is in it.

Interesting about High Noon, I’ve seen High Noon many times and I had no idea about a controversy with Rio Bravo. I found the Wikipedia entry on Rio Bravo has a paragraph about the controversy with High Noon. Howard Hawks and John Wayne made Rio Bravo as they disliked the idea of a sheriff who has to go asking for help. Kind of surprising that there wasn’t room in their minds for a different point of view.
