What will help my LCD image? (1 Viewer)

I've recently got in to the HT projection arena and love it. I have an NEC MT830 LCD projector. My question: What can I do to generate a better picture. I don't have a progressive scan DVD player. Would that be the way to go or will that do anything? Would a scaler like DVDO do anything. As you can tell, I am new to this type of set up so any help would be appreciated.

What are you using as a screen right now? A grey screen with a higher than 1.0 gain, may help with the brightness and contrast ratio.
