Hasn't this been quietly happening on a lot of 1.85:1 movies on DVD anyway?

I have definately noticed some slight AR differences on my DVDs of 1.85:1 movies. I figured it just because in many cases the studio quietly opened the mattes slightly to 1.78:1

Hm, looks like just Young Mr Lincoln this week. That's OK, I still haven't caught up on all the Warner Oscar-winners from 2 weeks ago.

Oh yes...there will be blood!

I want "Saw 2" but will probably wait and get it used at Blockbuster. Need to pick up S3 and S4 of "The Golden Girls," will have to look into that deal at Circuit City (provided they even have them in stock ).

Thanks as always Mike & Patrick for the Weekly RoundUp.

I just picked it up this morning at Target and it is the old boxset (UPC 097360620047). Here's a pic of what you get in this one:

How did I miss "Quick Change" on the list? I might just have to pick that one up, too, if only for the immortal line, "Nuuuuuuuude women. Clooooooowns welcome."

Has anyone seen any good B&M prices for Tori Amos' Fade To Red video collection?
Definitely want that and Mirrormask, proabably the least discounted releases of the week, near as I can see.

Jeff,

Thanks for the photo and different UPC numbers.

I picked up a box today and the Breakfast At Tiffany's spine is colored Pink instead of white as it appears in the photo you provided of the earlier DVD. My boxset is unopened as I became concerned Target mixed old boxes with newer box for the $17.99 low advertised price. I hoped to clarify that on the forum before it is opened and get surprised with an older BAT DVD.

Thanks again for the help!

Target is quickly becoming the store I dread going to for new releases.

Tonight, I went to pick up Grey's Anatomy: Season 1 and they were all sold out. I found a fairly helpful fellow who checked and found out there were none in the store. He issued a rain check...but also noted his computer told him there would be "limited availability" for this title. I told him this was a new release this week of a current, popular TV show...and he said his recent experience with Target is that it has been under-ordering MANY of its weekly advertised specials.

With Target, I've definitely got the idea in my head now (even as I was making my way to the store tonight) "I wonder if they're going to have what I want".

EDIT** I should add that this Target had three spots on its "new release" shelf reserved for Grey's Anatomy.

A store with great prices AND inventory in-stock. How radical! :D

If only they'd move into the Northeast! :frowning:

Looks like between Circuit City and Target, I should be able to get each Golden Girls season for 24.99... I'll have to check that out.

I wouldn't call that Mamie Van Doren poster "porn," but I wouldn't necessarily call it appropriate, either.

Anyway, thanks for the Roundup, as usual!

I needed to return to my local Target tonight on other business and wound my way through their DVD sction once again.

Grey's Anatomy still out-of-stock...although they had tear-off rainchecks posted in their space tonight. They were also completely out of ANY copies of Zathura and Golden Girls: Season 4.

The only new release of this week I saw in big quantities was Saw II.

Hey Rounduppers!

I guess I'm a little surprised that some of you have been offended by the 3 Nuts in Search of a Bolt poster used at the top of the original post.

I apologize to those of you who have been offended. As I alluded to earlier, I did think twice about posting the image...but after some consideration decided it was not, for that matter, inappropriate.

It is, after all, the original art for a 1964 film which features as one of its characters an ecdysiast (or strip-tease dancer) played by platinum blonde bombshell Mamie Van Doren. She's not nude...although, admittedly, practically nude. This is a film which was not banned...or which even carried any kind of a rating or warning. Racy? Yup. But the film is generally regarded as a pathetic comedic romp featuring one of the sex kittens of the day. Her character's name? Saxie Symbol! I have never seen the film, but I suspect there was no obvious nudity in it.

I hate to derail the purpose of the thread by engaging in this discussion over the image--rather than the film's availability exclusively on amazon.com but I didn't want to ignore the comments made by the earlier posters.

I don't think too many young children visit the Weekly Roundup to scout the week's best deals...but, then again, I don't think there's all too much about that image that you wouldn't find in any fashion magazine or on your television screen on any given night.

I'm sure I'm not about to change anyone's minds about this. After all, perceptions about art and pornography are completely subjective. This is just my attempt to explain my decision to include the image in this week's RoundUp.

Coincidentally, it was in 1964 (the same year as the movie's release) that US Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart uttered his famous line about hard-core pornography "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced...but I know it when I see it." Somehow I don't think he had this image in mind.

Mike,

I think it's just fine. My God, even in 1964 this wasn't a big deal, and today, women in nothing but thong panties are splashed all over tv, magazines, etc. Hell, college girls these days show up in class, and on the town in lingerie (at least for a top.

This isn't even the 80s when Edwin Meese tried to cover up a statue in the justice dept. that was topless. :)
