We settled on the date and most of the planning for our September 30 - October 1, 2023 TV Shootout. This will be our 20th year for our TV Shootouts that are open to the public.

We just signed the lease at the same NYC facility we've used for the past 4 years. It's called "The Company, at 335 Madison Ave, NYC. The Company is luxury building that is across the street from Grand Central Terminal.

We have the entire 7th floor with a large conference room, full private restaurant, and a city block long outdoor balcony where we'll be serve beverages and some hors d'oeuvres.

I'll post our press release by the week of August 28th that will list our panel of expert judges and the list of the TVs that will be competing in the 4K and 8K TV Shootout Evaluation events.

It's also likely that I can have a small group of A/V enthusiasts to attend in person. My sponsor partner, Dealerscope magazine who takes care of most of the costs will charge a small fee to cover the breakfast, lunch, dinner and beverages that we serve to all of the attendees.

All attendees are also invited to our Press Conference at the end of each TV Shootout where we announce the results and crown the new "King of TV®"

Having attended several of Robert’s Shootouts, I can attest to the fact that one will find a great deal to learn. Every panel is professionally calibrated to create an equal playing field.

And many may be surprised at the results, where no manufacturer is permitted to stand merely on their laurels and past successes.

At the conclusion, you’ll know which panel you need and why.

Dealerscope, my co-sponsor has made 10 seats available on a first come first served basis.

Their is a fee of $100 to cover the breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the snacks and beverages they serve throughout the day, and in celebration at our Press Conference where we announce the results and crown the new "King of 4K TV®".

The following day we host our 8K TV Shootout Evaluation® event.

if this is a one day event, the time it takes to complete shootouts in different category will not be enough.

Other than day 2 being our 8K TV Shootout Evaluation event we have few special nice plans. Here's just a little of what you will see and learn about at the 8K TV Shootout.

One of our judges is one of Hollywood's top well respected Cinematographer/Movie Director, Phil Holland who will present on what we can expect for the future of 8K and some very interesting technical elements of 8K HDR that are not commonly discussed.

Phil Holland is creating new Native 8K HDR content specifically for our presenters and panel of judges to use to help analize each of the picture quality elements.

Here's the link to Phil Holland's Bio.

a pity that in the miniLED category, the X93L and TCL's QM8(i think Caleb Dennison had handled that?) as well as LG's QNED95 isn't available there to compete in a 2 to 2 to 2 fight that reflects as Chinese vs Korean vs Japanese in tech advancement competition...

as for OLED, HiSense already have their's sold in some region, but size wise biggest would be in 65". TCL's OLED is not ready yet, and PHILIPS i think doesn't have OLED offering for sale in U.S.?
anyway, hopefully HiSense will have bigger size OLED next year to battle with Korean panels either in Korean marques or Japanese marques... yeah, even SHARP is using OLEDs from both LG and Samsung now.

Stop the FOMO's live stream today with his key interviews while he covered our TV Shootout has been very popular with over 16k unique views in the just 12 hours since it started today.

I expect the media and some of the YouTubers that were present, Classy, Brain and FOMO to be discussing and covering this in great depth and detail.

This will answer a lot of question to please read just the top few paragraphs of our TV Shootout webpage and also review the results.

well... the competition is over for the 4K category.
some commendation and criticism here...

on the positive side:-
-representatives from makers were invited to either make comment on other competitors' products as well as further promote own products.
-calibration/tuning of the competing products was done by a 3rd party, no interference from the makers.
-same sized products were chosen to compete.

on the criticizing part:-
-only 3(ala cream de la cream product) models of different display types available in Value Electronics are chosen. although i have no idea if VE also a retailer for TCL product. so looking for next year's shootout, if we can have same sized product from the Japanese, Korean, Chinese marques, that would be an exciting "Triathlon Competition with 6 Contestant" to watch.
-people doing the assessment were moving too close to the displays to do their assessments. cordon off an area 2meter/6.6feet away(or shorter distance like 1.5m/5ft) from the displays to mimic reality of home viewing environment such that the distance would also helped in minimizing getting negative impressions of the image qualities due to viewing angles that would often due to panel type limitations. from the safety point of view, that cordoned off would help to get assessors to shun away from getting hit by the fallen top displays if accidental toppling happens. remember, when wheel-able display bracket with height adjustment is used, the weight of the display gets heavier, not the "holder".
-the back of the displays seems to be 2 large windows covered with thick curtains. next year have the assessors to sit on that side while the displays moved in. such that in the "Daylight View" category, the curtains can be pulled to let natural day light in to light up the room, as well as hitting onto the displays.

in the miniLED shootout category, Samsung have the sure win. imagine if Sony in time have the same sized product in the market available to participate in the challenge, what will be the chance for Samsung to win?

this is not an easy event to organize, in consideration of event location, location rental, location structural limitation, logistics, setup... and of course monies to pay, as well as at the time of closing in picking contesting products, do different makers have their products in specific sizes available that time to be able to squeeze in to take part in the event.

anyway... KUDOS to organizers, the technical team, the logistics team as well as the judging team and guests, to put up this shootout on the 4K "Trial-thlon".
i'll look forward for next year's event with more contestant... should there be, available.
