You may or may not know that this year's Toshiba 16x9 sets upconvert all inputs to 540p. Some say it causes a softening of the picture.
I understand that if you're running an HTPC, you can set the output to 1080i which, as I understand it, would be native to the set (since it's a multiple of 540).
So, it the information about the HTPC is true, why hasn't any manufacturer put out a standalone DVD player with selectable output? Wouldn't that solve all out problems?
