Available now via Internet:

Firmware Update Version: 2.4

Applicable Models: HD-XA1, HD-A1, and HD-D1.

Overview: Has not been updated by Toshiba yet.

================

FYI: Previous Firmware Update Version: 2.3 (7/3/2007)

Applicable Models: HD-XA1, HD-A1, and HD-D1.

Overview: As part of our commitment to provide world-class service to our customers, Toshiba is supplying this firmware update for use by purchasers of Toshiba HD DVD Player models HD-XA1, HD-A1, and HD-D1. This firmware update improves network connectivity for supporting the download of web-enabled network content associated with certain HD DVD discs, improves certain video and audio processing capabilities, and also addresses certain disc playback and HDMI/DVI related issues identified by Toshiba.

=================

FYI: My Toshiba HD-A1 (AUG 2006) w/FW v2.3 played "Shrek the Third" flawlessly.

Access to the WEB Enabled features ...

1) "The World of Shrek" (Here you can pull up imaginary bios, history and facts for each of the main characters, as well as the real-life voice talent behind them.)

... & ...

2) "Shrek's Trivia Track" (pop-up text commentary - story notes, character asides, production info and other fun facts are shown in an easy-to-read manner, and it's all nicely paced.)

... downloaded very quickly and worked GREAT respectively!

Toshiba continues to support the First Generation 2006 HD DVD players!

I'll update tonight once I get home from work.

I haven't downloaded this yet for my HD-A1, but I just wanted to say kudos for Toshiba for continuing to support these first Gen systems.

I too am glad Toshiba is continuing to support the older models. I never expected them to abandon them especially given the war and that Shrek is such a high profile release. Still it's nice to know that if I give my A1 to my brother that the player will still be supported by Toshiba.

I upgraded my Aug. 2006 HD-A1 last Friday Nov. 16th, and NO PROBLEMS!!!

Boot-up is definitely faster, ... and just a little longer if it searches the WEB for any UPDATES first!

.... a) See "WEB UPDATE" message on screen = approx. 1:16 secs

3) PRESS "PLAY" - HD DVDs = approx. 1:15 - 1:20 - depending on HD DVD

SD DVD APPROX. TIMES:
4) PRESS "PLAY" - SD DVDs = approx. 44 - 47 seconds - depending on SD DVD

HD DVD's sampled after v2.4 FW update:
1) Serenity
2) Sahara
3) Transformers
.... a) Disc 1 Movie & WEB Enabled "Intelligence MODE"
4) Shrek the Third
.... a) Movie, Extras & WEB Enabled featurettes
5) Heroes: Season 1
.... a) Disc 1 & Disc 2 including WEB Log-in / Season 2 - Story Board featurettes
