Great, but I still want more early silent films of the team. "Two Tars" especially.

Two things:
I hope this isn't wrecked like the big bluray from this year..
I hope this turns out better than the Laurel Or Hardy dvd that I got before-- it had a stupid "Passport" logo on the bottom left of the screen during every film. Trash.

I saw many of these during the virtual Pordenone Giornate del Cinema Muto. The Laurel shorts were particularly good. The LoC and Lobster Films were involved in this project. This same compilation was already released in France so it's good that Flicker Alley is making it available domestically.

What's wrong with the L&H Blu-ray? Was hoping to get this set for my dad for Christmas...

The only place I've seen many of their silent films on disc is the Region 2 DVD set pictured below, which has a lot of material. I bought the set several years ago along with a multi-region player to handle them, and the quality is quite good. Some shorts appear a second time with computer colorization and a slightly slower speed (heaven only knows why) but those doubles can be ignored. Amazon still lists it, but at an outrageous price.

There was some very passionate debate here about how much digital clean-up was done and the fact they don't have the film-like look that many on here prefer. The producers have also done wonders with digital stabilization and cleaning up some very worn negatives and prints that were filled with scratches and marks.

You know your dad better than I do, but I suspect you can gift him this and he'll be thrilled.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll definitely gift him the set then. He'll love it - he was the one that introduced me to L&H.
