So did anyone watch this? On the fence about it. Will give it a few more episodes to make a decision.

I watched it and liked it. Will see how the next several episodes play out and whether the ratings keep it as a player for next season. Pun was intended.:)

Ratings were pretty low (1.2), so the number of future episodes may be limited.

That is too bad about the ratings. I liked this a little more than BLINDSPOT. PLAYER does echo PERSON OF INTEREST, sort of.

Of course, as usual, I can't follow the big shoot outs where everyone is in black suits and shooting at who knows who.

I liked it more than I thought I would. It made far better use of Wesley Snipes's considerable (and underrated) talents than I thought it would. Charity Wakefield was also terrific as the dealer.

Unfortunately, of the three main characters, the title character is by far the weakest. But the concept intrigued me. I'll probably stick with this one unless or until NBC cancels it.

The action kind of struck me as being too unrealistic, but I'll probably hang around. I enjoyed the idea of a variation of Person of Interest where predictive crime is a factor in the show's premise. I've always liked Winchester in Strike Back and the same resoluteness is on display in this series. Snipes and Wakefield were both effective in their roles. I particularly enjoyed Snipes' scene at the police station at the end of the episode.

I was kind of disappointed that they did not work in the line 'bet on black' for Snipes, but maybe they'll eventually get around to that homage. :)

I'm going to be disappointed if this series gets cancelled before we find out the connection between the Player's ex-wife and the Dealer. Judging by the photo, they are/were friends.

I'm really enjoying this one. It's pulpy fun, and I'm intrigued by the Dealer, who is proving to be one of the most interesting TV characters of the fall.

Same here! It's too bad it's going to get cancelled. Yes, the Dealer is very interesting with her unique talents.

There are articles online saying Sony has signed up THE PLAYER in 105 international territories.
So maybe THE PLAYER won't be cancelled that quick after all. What are the odds?

The international sales saved "Hannibal" for two seasons longer than it would lasted otherwise. I guess it depends on how low Sony is willing to go with NBC to keep it on the air.

Interesting reveals this week, with both the Dealer and the Player finding things out.

Enjoyed Wesley Snipes going all 'Blade' this week in his two fights. Also just a touch of his drunken decoy commuter from Money Train in the casino. Still enjoying this series as well.

I'm wondering if Virginia was taken by one of the gamblers to eventually compromise Alex in a very high stakes bet, but wasn't she taken before Alex was approached by Mr. Johnson (Snipes)? Not sure about the timing on those events.

Or was she taken to get Alex to become the player?

Perhaps. If so, then the question becomes was Mr. Johnson complicit? While the most obvious interpretation of Johnson's interference with Alex's hacker buddy (Dustin Ybarra) could be viewed as suspicious we really don't know his motivation. He may have been trying to keep Alex from getting in over his head. I think that Johnson being involved in the abduction is too obvious and that the series will go elsewhere. I believe that there is a lot more territory for the show to explore in terms of 'the House'.

Who is the house beyond Mr. Johnson and Cassandra?

The show has only presented Mr. Johnson and Cassandra but Thursday's episode hinted at more complexity when the Asian gangster implied that Snipes would not always be in his current position. I just think that it is an area that the show can explore to develop its mythology. For instance, how does one become Pit Boss or Dealer? What is the history of 'the House' and the game? Also something this complex feels like it would need more than three individuals. Just spitballing here.
