Netflix is sometimes a little slow to get new releases of catalog titles. They still don't have the season sets of Star Trek: TOS on DVD. They still only have the old 2 episode per disc sets.

Ha, Dave, you sold me with that line! I'm currently HD DVD only, but expecting to be dual by year's end. This week was the first time I actually found myself jonesing for blu new release. After reading all this, I strolled off to buy Halloween and Dawn of the Dead for $17.99 in-store at Newbury Comics.

They didn't get Halloween in! So just Dawn for me. And so it begins...

I noticed that, too. The HALLOWEEN BD disc actually has the copyright holders name misspelled ("Compass Intertnational"???) on the cover art and circular disc art. Also, the DTS logo mention on the back of both HALLOWEEN BD and DAY OF THE DEAD BD say that the DTS logos are registered trademarks of "Digital Theatter Systems, Inc."

wow, that is so bad. usually spelling mistakes and incorrect logos used to be the tell tale signs of a bootleg. now I guess it's a sign of bad quality control.

I just finished watching my Bluray copy of "Evil Dead 2" and it was amazing. If this is what to expect of future releases then these films are indeed in good hands with Anchor Bay. Detail on this is stunning. The only times things get wacky and blurry is during fast motion, like when Ash is flying backwards or when the girl gets dragged by the tree vines through the woods. Some effects shots look alot more pronounced now, where as before they seemed dark or blurred. You guys can decide whether you think that's a good thing or bad one. Colors looked natural and not over saturated. The sound, Well, it made me jump a few times. Very well done. I can't wait to get "Halloween" and "Day of the Dead". Now,to make me happy it's time for Anchor Bay to release "Phantasm" on Bluray. If it is handled this well, my goodness, we all should be in for a treat.

Okay I watched Halloween. Looked excellent despite some scenes not matching the pumped up colors of the '99 DVD. No doubt the best PQ I've ever seen Halloween on home video and definitely worth the purchase for me.

YMMV of course depending on how fanatical someone is over the artifact ridden '99 LE DVD version. :)

Next up....................tonight a dead double feature

I showed a friend of mine the movie and he stated it doesn't look like a nearly 30 year old film. The intense amount of resolution was obvious. We just couldn't watch the LE anymore. It was a great release but HD spoils me again.

YES! Phantasm on Blu Ray would be absolutely incredible.

I went format neutral yesterday and picked up Halloween, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Casino Royale. I sat down with Day last night and was blown away by the quality of this release.

Troy, I am really wishing I bought Evil Dead II now. I actually held off becuase I heard it was a mediocre release but I'll have to go back for it now.

But I'm just thinking about what Phantasm (and Phantasm II, c'mon Universal!) would be like on HD formats and I'm giddy with the thought. I truly hope it's in their next release bundle.

I just hope we don't have to wait until Oct 08 for more AB/Starz BD titles.

Near Dark, Manhunter, The Wicker Man, Dracula Prince of Darkness, The Devil Rides Out, Frankenstein Created Woman, Plague of the Zombies, Quatermass and the Pit, Black Sunday, Black Sabbath and a big helping of Spaghetti Westerns would be fantatsic.

Hellraiser, Children of the Corn, and Heathers would be nice future Anchor Bay releases.

I agree, I'm ready for the next wave from Anchor Bay as well.

Hellraiser DEFINITELY needs to be in it! :)

I'm sure future announcements will depend heavily on the sales numbers of these releases. A small studio like Starz needs to keep a close eye on the profit margin when making a new venture such as this.

For my part, I picked up Dawn of the Dead. I will likely pick up Halloween and Day of the Dead in the near future.
