I decided this unit fits in our HT room and budget.

Is anyone else looking at these Sony ES STR-AZX000ES models?

The tech. is impressive it has a friendly user interface, it is touted to manage sound placement superbly, and it comes with a 5 year Man. warranty. I'm not anticipating buyer remorse with this unit.

Sony receivers can be a little spotty. That's a new model that hasn't been released yet, so there's no way to know how reliable it will be.

To be honest, in that price range, I suggest at least looking at the Denon AVR-X4700H which you can get on closeout for $1,499. The new model that replaces it is $2,500. It's often an excellent bargain to get outgoing models on sale. You're getting much more of a receiver for $200 less than the Sony.

Sony's new STR-AZ3000ES is a 9.2 channel HDMI 2.1 receiver with 120 watts per channel. I'm a big Denon fan, but I from what I've seen and heard at Sony's presentations at their select dealer meetings in Austin TX two weeks ago the new ES receiver line-up is very nicely enhanced for the 2023 model year.

Edited to add the all in delivered price for Sony's STR-AZ3000ES $1,699.

For the AZ3000ES in particular I like:

  • Center channel enhancements include Center Speaker Lift Up, Acoustic Center Sync, and Dual Center Speaker

  • Compatible with Sony’s SA-RS3S & SA-RS5 wireless rear speakers and SA-SW3 & SA-SW5 wireless subwoofers

  • All HDMI 2.1, 6-in/2-out
