My heart broke when I heard this news. He was an exceptional talent and truly brought Gilbert to life. Crombie also played Man in Chair in the musical "The Drowsy Chaperone" on Broadway (and tour, I believe).

He will be dreadfully missed. Too young, much too young to leave. My prayers are with "Anne" co-star Megan Follows (who must be shattered) and his family.

Thought this clip seemed appropriate to share in this thread too (as much as I hate the third miniseries - for so many reasons).

Not to derail this tribute thread to a wonderful actor who, at 48, passed away much too soon, but:

At least the first "Anne of Green Gables" miniseries was shot on film, correct? I bet it would look wonderful on Blu-Ray.

Adam, I was thinking the same thing. Has Sullivan Entertainment put out a decent p/q version yet? I still have the first version that has artifact compression all over the place. I'd buy a Blu-ray version in a heartbeat!

There's a Japanese box set out of those remasters, but it's not cheap. It can't possibly have worse picture quality than the original DVDs. The whole quadrilogy* was done on film and posted on tape, and they had to go back and redo it in HD.

*I wonder whether things would have turned out better or worse for the last two Anne series had Sullivan and Disney not parted company (the exact reasons for which I do not know why, but I'm sure there's a good story to be told about how this partnership ended). I could finish the third one, but part 4 was another thing entirely.
