My old Philips player hardly missed a beat with the layer changes, usually didn't notice them at all. But the Panny I have jerks badly during those times.

I was fast forwarding one and it got stuck for a short time but continued. Playing it back at normal speed it got stuck and didn't move. I had to jump forward to the next chapter. So I think to use that test you should be in the room keeping an eye on the time, when it gets stuck and try it out at normal speed. Otherwise it might get to the end and you think all is fine, but then when you watch it for real it messes up on normal speed.
