In the U.S.
480p is ED
720p and above is HD
Most plasma's even though they can display HD, display it at ED resolutions.
On the full benefit of BlueRay, I'm going to say yes, even if they are only 480p ED displays.
My test proved to me, that the source res is the most important factor, as there is just more detail. The output resolution if 480p (ED) or above seems very very good dealing with even true HD sources.
