My mother's computer has Windows XP.

Her and I have separate accounts that must
be individually logged on to with passwords.
I use her computer frfom time to time.

She uses Outlook Express in her account.

I use an email program called POCO MAIL.

Problem is, when she opens a file attachment
that her friends send her, instead of the
attachment opening, it opens up my POCO
MAIL program.

So, I deleted POCO MAIL.

Problem now, my Mom can't open attachments
in Outlook Express. When she tries to, a box
starts searching for POCO MAIL.

How can I restore file associations to
Outlook Express so it opens its own attachments?

And, yes, I reinstalled IE 6.0.

Is this only a certain type of attachment? Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't outlook just use the Windows defined apps for a given file type?

What happens if you try to open a file of the same type from explorer?

In any case, if you click on My Computer, then select View, and Folder options, there should be a file types tab in the dialog. Check to see if there are any associations left to Poco, and if there are, delete them. You should then be able to either restore the associations, but it's quite likely that Outlook will restore them for you when you start it up.

Something that has solved similar situations for me & clients in the past:

Start / Settings / Control Panel
Internet Options
Programs

Change EMail to something other than OE, OK it. Go back in, change it back to OE, OK it.

If you have TweakUI, it has a 'Repair Associations' feature. If you don't have it, just do a search for it on hotfiles.com.
