He served as Academy president for four terms in the 1970s and is the only person to receive the best picture prize and the Thalberg and Hersholt awards.

A true renaissance man and one hell of a visionary. We are not producing men of such artistic stature in Hollywood anymore. His was a clear-eyed pursuit of courting the very best independents in the industry, encouraging them to make their kind of movies under The Mirisch Co.'s creative banner.

Walter Mirisch - another untouchable, gone to us now, but never to be forgotten. Hail and farewell, then...and thanks for the memories: so, so many of them.

A couple of days ago i checked out from my local library The Magnificent Seven Blu-ray and viewed the movie with the commentary which included Walter Mirisch and had a great time listening to their stories about the making of the film. Also the documentary on the making of the film was very entertaining too! Rest in Peace.
