Just had a member send me an email with this information.
As we have all been speculating, it looks like Warner is getting
ready to announce a 40th Anniversary Release of Willy Wonka
and The Chocolate Factory in an Ultimate Collector's Edition.
You can find them up for preorders here and here despite the fact
we are still waiting for an official press release.
This is how the boxed set is being described:
Packaged in an individually numbered box, this special edition includes a
Wonka bar, a pencil case with scented pencils and a scented eraser, the
book "Pure Imagination: The Making of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,"
a Golden Ticket replica, and archival letters. Three-disc set.
Interesting to note: Three-disc set
Three discs? Wouldn't the movie span a single BD-50? What would be on the other two discs?
Is this going to be a brand new transfer or just a regeneration of the current?
As much as I love this film, I am very hesitant to spend the $60
on a film I already have a wonderful Blu-ray copy of. I don't need
scented pencils or erasers. The book seems like it might be cool
but let's face it, this is a box of trinkets that has no value to most
of the film's fans unless it offers a new transfer and video supplements
that we haven't had previously.
Suppose we will have to wait and see what's actually on those other
two discs before we make assumptions at to whether this purchase
would even be worth considering.
