Just got back from CES 2003 and saw the new Denon DVD / DVD-A / SACD player. Expected ship date is March / April. This thing is built like a tank. The unit was just a static display and was not hooked up. Price, $999. Pioneer should look out for this one. Typical Denon built, fit, and finish; exceptional. Uses custom Burr-Brown dacs made exclusively for Denon. This is NOT a rebadged Pioneer.

I like. I especially noticed this:

a large 16 MB buffer memory to minimize layer-changing time in dual-layer DVD discs

I can't believe that even now, layer changes aren't more seemless on current generation machines...

You know what's funny, I didn't seem to notice them as much with earlier generation machines (I've had Pioneers for a while: 414, 333, 05, 45a, 47ai), but starting with the 05, I *have* noticed them more. Might be that since I jumped from $200 players to high priced, the delay that's there seems less acceptable to me...

Anyone know if the Silicon Image SiL 504 decoding engine as good as the Faroudja chip?
