We got a Toshiba DVD-R/RW for Christmas, and it has a peculiar (and irritating) “problem.” It flags some TV shows as “copyright protected” and won’t record them. WB programming seems to be the worst offender. We’re using cable TV, by the way.

Anyone else ever heard of this? Any way to defeat it? If nothing else, I was thinking about maybe feeding it a line-level signal from a stereo VCR. Would that work?

I've heard of it, but never experienced it. Generally I record programs on my cable DVR, and then if I want to keep them I record them on a cheap DVD recorder I have.
