I just exchanged my Samsung DLP 50" HL-S5065W 720p to 61" HL-S6165W 720p and the picture is alot less HD looking on the HD channels. There is more of a "grainy" look and not sharp and clear like the 50" was. :eek:Both have a resolution of 1280 horizontal x 720 vertical.

So I assume the extra 11 inches is making more space for the same amount of pixels ?
Does this make sence ?
Or do you think it's just a defective TV ?

Sams also had the Samsung HL-S6167W 61" 1080i DLP for $100.00 more $2,189 w/o the stand The 61" HL-S6165W was $ 2,083 w/ stand.

Hi John, what is your viewing distance? Also, have you used a calibration DVD such as AVIA or DVE?

Did you copy down your old settings first, or at least know what ballpark they were in?

Turn down the sharpness all the way to 0, turn the brightness way down, back off the Picture/Contrast. If you have any advanced settings or special modes, turn them off for now.

Else, maybe you have a bad set.

Yea. the problem is with the size/viewing distance. You didnt notice it before because the screen was smaller.

I did the calibration with Setup disk and the set looks a slight bit better but not at all as sharp as the 50" did.

So,:frowning: it looks like I did a stupid thing...and if I understand what you all are saying I have the following choices ???

1. move the 61 " to a 12 foot distance

2. return the set AGAIN and get
a.) a 50" at 720p or 1080i
b.) 61 at 1080i

Hi John - your best options are:

1. Move the 61" 720p set to a 12-foot distance, as you noted

2. Or return the set and purchase a 42" to 46" 720p set (or 50" if your eyes are comfortable with this size)

3. Or return the set and purchase a 60" to 65" 1080p set (personally this would be my choice, a new Sony SXRD or JVC D-ILA)

Can't go wrong with a 60-65 inch 1080p! I second Alon's choice number 3!

Hi there,
I'm a fellow Samsung 61" DLP 1080p owner and I love this TV!!
My viewing distance is like 12’ to 15’ and it looks great…..Like others mentioned your size/viewing distance is wrong for you. I would go 42" ~ 50" TV for your application.

Good luck
