- Label each end of each cable (I use a Dymo label machine folded over each cable end, but you can use a Sharpie marker [get a Silver or White one for dark cables]). When you have to disconnect something, this labeling system I describe can be a lifesaver.
- Group similar cables together (like the Speaker cables) using a Cable wrap (Radio Shack sells a spiral one which I use)
- Group Ethernet cables together
- Also Group AC Power cables together the same way.
Another thing I did was to buy a UPS unit that provides Surge Protection and Battery Backup (important if you have a home theater computer system attached). Just make sure it has enough wattage protection for the equipment you're connecting.
