Daryl's post above is pretty much perfect for B4/A1 which is the most inter-connected season. After that it really doesn't matter a whole lot becaues those shows really aren't that connected.

and yet other posted shows that directly spoil other shows.

Its a shame there is not a web site that would have this all stored some where. In a quick goole, it seems like this question has been asked numerous times and the answers all vary.

I will follow Daryl's post for B4/S1 as you suggested and work my way through the rest I guess.

This can't be much (at all?) different than DarylL's above, but I think it might read simpler.

Crossover List For Buffy 5 and Angel 2 (2000-2001)
-
Buffy 5.7 Fool For Love
Angel 2.7 Darla (not a 'crossover', really, but these two share flashbacks and thematic elements, and purposely aired on the same night...)

Angel 2.11 Redefinition ( _____ leaving LA precedes--)
Buffy 5.14 Crush (her arrival back in Sunnydale)

Angel 2.12 Blood Money (isn't a crossover (more of a 'Hey, isn't that...?'), but a Buffy character from 2.7 and 3.1 turns up on Angel and recurs there a few more times...)

Angel 2.17 Disharmony (following Buffy 5.14, a character goes to L.A- another Buffy character appears in a hilarious phone call)

Buffy 5.17 Forever (Angel comes to Sunnydale after *edited*)

Buffy 5.22 The Gift (precedes--)
Angel 2.22 There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb ( ____ has a small cameo)

-----

Crossover List for Buffy 6 and Angel 3 (2001-2002)
-
Angel 3.4 Carpe Noctem (Angel goes to meet Buffy)
Buffy 6.4 Flooded (Buffy goes to meet Angel)

No real crossovers, on different networks this season (thankfully not enforced the next year for Buffy's swansong).

-----

Crossover List for Buffy 7 and Angel 4 (2002-2003, Firefly ran during this season, as well, on Fox... three series, three networks... Joss never slept... after Firefly was cancelled, a few from its cast turned up on Buffy and Angel...)
-
Angel 4.13 Salvage, 4.14 Release, and 4.15 Orpheus feature ________ , and in the last one, _______________ , which continues into--
Buffy 7.18 Dirty Girls

Buffy 7.21 End of Days, 7.22 Chosen (Angel visits, briefly)

Well, that was me that posted what spoiled what but it's genereally pretty simple at that point. Looks like Dax just posted a more detailed list that accomplishes the same.

I barely got through them once. My recommended viewing order is Buffy Seasons 1-3 then Angel 1-5 -- just pretend the crossovers are Joss's PoMo way of showing that people continue to have lives even when we aren't around.

Buffy just lost too much focus once it dropped the High School Is Hell theme -- College Is Hell never really gelled, and Angel handled Being Out On Your Own Is Hell a thousand times better.

But I'm probably in the minority here.

ANGEL fans who aren't in love with Buffy nearly as much...we are a small but fierce group....

For all the comments that people make about how both shows are so deeply connected, there's an awful lot of bias against the spinoff, as well as people who haven't even seen it at all...If they're supposedly one and the same, why ignore one and praise the other like crazy? Why the endless comparisons over which is apparently "better'?

This thread is all about how the shows are connected, so it's not like I'm straying away from the topic.

well, some people say Buffy lost it over graduation because of the new guy on the block and the cental season 4 arc, but I think 5 and 6 totally redeemed itself from that IMO. Season 7 had its moment but too much of it seemed like they were doing nothing in a lot of episodes to kill space until they could get to the last arc of the series and send it out in style.

Did Millennium and X-Files even crossover, that one single episode aside? The one in X-Files that acted as a Millennium finale?

I have watched all the X-Files and Millennium eps 1-14 and I see no correlation!

Location
The basement of the FBI building
Other than that one episode, nope. Although there's an episode of Millennium where Mulder and Scully's stand-ins are seen walking in the FBI building (as an in-joke). I don't want to speak for Bill but I believe he's talking about watching all of 1013, the XF production company, shows in the order they aired as opposed to watching all of The X-Files, then all of Millennium, etc.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Here is the list I devised last summer, through trial and error that is the proper chronological order. I did a little fudging with season 7/Angel 4 to keep as much of those storylines together and flowing and not jumping back and forth in the middle of big cliffhangers

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm doing, plus "Harsh Realm" and "The Lone Gunmen" are included. In regards to "Harsh Realm", there is a lot of cast crossover and at least one meta-reference on "The X-Files" but unlike "Millennium" and "The Lone Gunmen" there's nothing that ties it into the universe shared by the other three. To put this in "Buffy" and "Angel" terms, it would be like adding "Firefly" into the mix.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, I'm just putting my two cents in in regards to something that has a lot of parallels. In this case I think it's better all around to watch them in order alongside each other.

I see a lot of people basically saying "don't worry too much, just make sure you watch episode Y before you watch episode Z" which raises a problem. Using the Ten Thirteen shows as an example, let's say someone said "don't worry about watching them in order, just make sure you watch everything on 'Millennium' up to the series finale 'Goodbye to All That' before you watch the 'X-Files' episode 'Millennium'".

To those who offer similar vagueness, would you suggest that someone watching "Buffy" and "Angel" watch one show through until the point where knowledge of the other show is necessary and then suggest that they put the first show on the backburner so that they could be "caught up" by the time they reach that episode, or even worse, are you suggesting that they only watch the episodes of the second show that tie in with the episodes of the first?

Some might not advocate the strict airdate order like above or my Ten Thirteen list (I believe I posted it in the X-Files discussion topic) but if you are going to just watch the two shows at the same basic rate you might as well "do it right".

Even if there's no specific crossover happening at any given time, it gives you a pretty cool look at stuff like casting (occasionally on the Ten Thirteen shows you'll literally see the same person popping up on both shows in the same "week") or the different locations (I'm currently on X-Files season 6, the first year they shot in LA, while Millennium stayed in Vancouver) and it's just interesting to compare the two shows, you get a good idea of which show is better at any given time.

It's a tough question but, in general, I would advocate trying to watch as much straight of each show possible. Mainly because, at least in Angel's case, it becomes very serialized after the first season so I'm not sure that breaking it up in chunks with the much more standalone and different tonally Buffy is really the best way to watch it. Yes that was how it first aired but Angel, like 24, Alias, Babylon 5, and a few others strikes me as a show where serialized viewing on DVD is the optimum experience.

That Buffy 4/Angel 1 guide posted above by Daryl L is perfect for viewing those seasons. That looks like one I constructed a couple of years ago.

It also would be correct to view one Buffy, one Angel, etc.

There was one major continuity issue that crossed over with Buffy 5/Angel 2, and a reference in the very last scene of Angel 2 to the climax of Buffy 5. It would be fine to go disc-to-disc by watching an Angel disc, then a Buffy disc until the end. Watch the final Buffy disc back-to-back with Buffy Disc 5 before moving to the final Angel disc.

I can't think of any crossover between Buffy 6/Angel 3.

There is one major continuity issue in Buffy 7/Angel 4, but the problem with coming up with a viewing order is that with Buffy having moved to UPN, the airing schedules were not coordinated. So the best thing to do there would be to reference the air dates in the insert booklets and follow those. On those occasions when a Buffy and and Angel aired on the same day (I'm not sure if there were any), watch Buffy first, as it would have aired earlier in the evening.

the closest to crossing over in Buffy 6/Angel 3 was when they met up offscreen around the third or fourth episodes of that season.

I also tried to keep things grouped together as much as possible in the last couple of shared seasons in my list. Especially because it starts to get painful to get through the middle of Buffy season 6.

But my list of 7/4 is the easiest to see both at the same time without interrupting the cliffhangers, except for the Faith arc on Angel, since that one Buffy episode has to go in between it to account for Willow.
