Blade Trinity starts out pretty hot, and then loses steam gradually until the end. Here are some of the gripes that I had...

Using the Zoey character as the plot device to the ending. Whose idea was it to throw in the blind chick and the King of Queens guy??? TOTALLY unneccessary. It was just extra weight that slowed the movie down. Dracula - Miscast. And what was it with Goyer's "baby-fetish"? He uses the baby device twice in the movive (despite the first being a decoy) and it is just so shameless!

On a plus side, GREAT costumes and sets, Reynolds being quite amusing, and hooray for Vancouver!

I just watched the extended cut, loved the film, and the DVD was very nice. :emoji_thumbsup:

I really liked Ryan Reynolds in this, he was often hilaious, he acted the way I would have acted in some of those situations. He was certaintly much better here than he was in The Amityville Horror.

Also, and you knew it was coming, Jessica Biel was obscenely, psychotically HOT!!

I couldn't take my eyes off her!

Anyone have a listing of the alterations made for the unrated cut? I watched it yesterday but accidentally viewed the theatrical version instead. I definitely don't want to have to watch this film TWICE, so I'd appreciate information about the differences between the two...

Biggest problem was the writing. Unnecessary characters and hackneyed story. When you look at the big picture, the whole story, you get a good sense of how truly uninspired it was. It really didn't go anywhere besides leading up to a lame fight that we've seen done better in previous Blade movies.

And that Dominic Purcell guy was absolutely atrocious. Bland is a great word to describe him. He has no presence and he looks and acts like some angry bouncer instead of the king of vampires. Probably the worst Dracula portrayal I have ever seen.

And the casting of Parker Posey and Patton Oswalt are head scratchers.

C'mon, James Remar was Ajax in The Warriors!
Watching the features (which seem to chronicle a different, better movie) I found Dominic Purcell pretty charismatic, just miscast. I never saw John Doe, that may have been a better role for him. Seems like Goyer put everything but the kitchen sink in this one; Reynolds' one liners were funny but there were just too many. Too bad, I agree it started strong, the car chase was pretty fun.
I'd also like to know what was added to the 'Unrated' cut. Hopefully not the deleted casino scene-all that needed was Van Helsing swinging by on a rope!

Having seen both cuts, I find the extended cut to be horrible. The additions were pretty poor and killed the pacing. I thouroughly enjoyed the theatrical cut in the theater though.

I just watched that movie for the first time a little over a month ago. Not bad. And even though his acting wasn't the greatest in that one either, it seemed to fit his character.

Just watched the Extended cut last night -- I forgot how overly long that movie was. Memory serves, I haven't seen the movie since it came out, the added scenes are as follows:

Drake and Parker Posey are together in a room, Posey is wearing a cross around her neck. Drake asks her why she wears it, tells her to take it off, that he'll make her a better one. He nuzzles her neck and drinks for a minute. (Not to sure if this was new or not, I don't remember the scene.)

The other one that was a bad thing:

Was it my imagination, or did they change the ending? (I'm too lazy to check.) In the Extended Version, Blade "dies". They take him to the morgue and before they can cut him open, he leaps up and chokes a few people. End of movie. I swear in the original version that before they cut Blade open, he turned into Drake -- after all, that was Drake's "final gift", to have the police think he was dead. Without this scene, you don't know what the hell happened to Drake's body, so the Extended Version ending was completely screwed up.

This movie is still pretty weak. My wife asked, "Well why did you buy it then, you dumb bastard?" (She left out the bastard, but I know she thought it.) I bought it because Ryan Reynolds is hilarious, and there were a few scenes I thought were funny. Plus, I have the other two so I had to buy (although, I had American Wedding too, and got rid of it leaving me with American Pie 1 and 2, but no wedding).

***This is towards the Unrated Cut (Never saw Theater)***

Parker Posey reminded me of someone who was acting in a parody.

I admit I did laugh at the completely over the top camp. But, I surely couldn't take her seriously. She would have been good for Scary Movie 4 though if it made fun of the Blade movies. I remember her also giving an over the top performance in Scream 3 (That was her, right?).

Dracula was bland to say the least. Come on, it's Dracula. I expected more. Of course, the writers have him running around shirtless hoping no one would notice. Dracula is the big bad and therefore needs to emit some coolness. It was lacking.

Blade even seemed to be bored by these villians and overall story. It's almost as if you expect him to role his eyes and just walk away and go order some coffee. He also seemed more of a side character.

Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds? Well, I give props for effort. Both were very serious in their pursuits of the roles and the training they put into them. Both look physically great. I do agree that they were bordering on too many Reynolds one liners though. You are at a serious moments and all the sudden a one liner comes out of nowhere. This is suppose to be a serious film to some extent, not Van Wilder meets Dracula. But, neither character bothered me.

Is it just me, or was this movies goal to focus more on Reynolds in the attempt to create a spinoff with Hannibal King?

All the other characters like the blind lady, the kid, etc? I have already forgotten all their names (some I didn't know when viewing) and their purpose to the overall story.

Overall, I would give the movie 2 out of 4 (as a see once movie). This would be lowered on a second viewing.

Ok to see once as mindless entertainment. Not really worth owning or something I would go out of my way to see again. Ultimately forgettable.

Rent Only!!!

Doesn't he have a cartoon to produce?

(sorry, couldn't resist. :D )

ObBlade: I watched the original again last night. It was amazing to see the difference. Wesley was into it, engaged and really doing his gig. He sleepwalked through Trinity and gave it no effort at all.

For those who said they liked this movie, I'm just curious as to what substance were you taking at the time of viewing so that I can get some and then watch this godawfull movie again.

This movie was horrid, and I'm a big Blade fan. I saw the first two in theaters, I saw the trailer for this one and knew I'd wait for the dvd. I'm glad I waited for it to come through netflix. So disappointing to see this story turn to this. The whole time I'm watching it I'm thinking," I Wesley making this bad on purpose so that he won't have to be Blade any more?", because after this I can't see how the movie could survive. Dracula with no accent at all? Regular humans fighting with vampires, and beating their asses? Next thing you know regular people will be able to kick the shit outta agents in the Matrix.

What a waste..

Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I've just got a couple of questions about the R1 release of the Extended/Unrated Edition:

1) Are the two versions of the film definitely seamlessly branched, or are there pauses between each change?

2) During the sequence where Whistler buys a newspaper near the start of the film, are the subtitles burnt-in, or player-generated? (Or, indeed, at any other point where subtitles are used)?

Thanks in advance, everyone.:)

I used the Whistler buying a newspaper scene and there is brief pause in the theatrical version of the movie. The movie pauses on the newspaper Whistler picks up. This doesn't happen when playing the unrated version. The subtitles are burned in.

A decent, but not great film that pretty much signaled the end of the Blade franchise, since it seemed to have no where else to go.

As DVDs go however, its a great effort from New Line. The picture and DTS-ES track are reference quality, and the extras are very good also. Just make sure its the unrated 2-disc you pick up. I'm pretty sure you can find it for $10 new or used if you look around.
