Be aware, it looks like it's an MOD disc and not a pressed one. I know that makes a difference to some folks, especially considering the price.

According to Amazon, it's a Shout Factory product. Do Shout Factory issue MOD discs?

I saw this film when it first played in theaters. I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

If it is an MOD disc, I believe it would be a Shout! Factory first. There's nothing in Amazon's listing to indicate a MOD, so I wouldn't worry about it. Blu-ray.com might have some useful information, however!

CHEERS! :)

Some thoughts on this upcoming release. I put them in spoiler paragraphs in case you haven't seen this movie and don't want any advance notes:

1. From my orignial posting in the Top 10 70s Favourite thread: Big Bad Mama (1974): From IMDB; "After the death of her lover, Wilma takes over his bootlegging business, but without much success. She soon meets up with bank robber Fred, who convinces her and her daughters to join him for his next big heist. In the meantime, Wilma also kidnaps the daughter of a millionaire in the hopes of getting rich off the ransom. Will Wilma and Fred be able to retire with their ill-gotten gains, or will the law eventually catch up with them?"
From Brad: One of my sentimental favorites as this Roger Corman film was a late night staple on cable in the 80s. Most striking feature, Angie Dickinson at age 40 doing her first nude scenes...and she put most Playboy centerfolds to shame.

2. Caution, there is plenty of female nudity in this film (not in a pornographic sense but definitely in a sexual one) and even some brief male nudity. In fact two of the characters (Polly and Billie Jean, played by Robbie Lee and Susan Sennett) get plenty of nude scenes. As both actresses play teenagers (and look convincing as younger teenagers), this might cause some "dirty old man" feelings among adult male viewers. I've checked this and confirmed that Robbie Lee was age 20 and Susan Sennett was 22 at the time this film was made.

Oh and if you have no desire to see a younger William Shatner nude (though masked), then you might want to skip the love scenes between Shatner & Angie Dickinson.

3. For those of us U.S. military veterans: Nowadays our men & women in uniform (and patriotism) are held in very high regard, by a vast majority of the population anyway. This wasn't the case back in 1974 as we were entering the post-Vietnam era (The Paris Accords were signed a year earlier and the war would officially end (as far as U.S. involvement goes) a year later in 1975. Back then it was somewhat Hollywood chic for films to feature negative portrayals of U.S. military personnel and U.S. veterans which would continue at least up until First Blood (1982) and Rambo (1985).

One of my cult favorites, Skatetown USA (1979) poked some fun at patriotism & veterans in comical ways that film producers would never get away with today.

A couple of scenes in this film portray military veterans as basically perverts & dirty old men so you may take offense at this. Keep in mind the era when this film was made.

Imagine making a film today ridiculing U.S. Vets & active duty military today, forget it.

I hate to be the bearer of what may be viewed as bad news to some, but BIG BAD MAMA's listing at Blu-ray.com does, in fact, indicate a 25 GB Single Layer, BD-R issue: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Big-Bad-Mama-Blu-ray/152832/

I was just thinking about that and if this offering from Shout is the same transfer used for the 2010 (anamorphic) DVD (Roger Corman Classics Series) or a newer transfer.
The DVD didn't look like it had any cleanup or image enhancement done. It was a older film and it showed in the DVD.

I'm hoping for a newer transfer but now that I've read your post, I'm not optimistic. Might wait for one of RAH's A Few Words About.. articles on this film before buying. That and wait for the price to come down. For now I used RE's link to place this in my order bin.

UPDATE: Just saw this on the Amazon page:
"Important Product Information - This product is manufactured on demand in the BD-R format. It will play in nearly all leading Blu-ray players that have the latest firmware updates. Microsoft Xbox One, however, does not currently support BD-R playback."

Maybe the listing is a mistake and Shout isn't releasing it. Normally they announce like everyone else, 6-8 weeks ahead of street date.
Between no mention at Shout! Factory's website, and no actual reviews this close to the supposed March 29, 2016 release date, I for one, find this a bit suspect!

I suppose things should be become more clear, soon enough. I've no interest in ordering this title myself, but am merely weighing in, and also hope that those who wish to order BIG BAD MAMA (1974) aren't ultimately disappointed, come Tuesday!

CHEERS! :)

I contacted Shout because I didn't want to pass along false information. Here was their answer to my inquiry:

"Yes – this is a MOD release from us through Amazon."

Really bad news that Shout are releasing stuff on BD-R. I would have bought Big Bad Mama on a pressed disc, but not BD-R.

I'm still going to get this one but as I inquired before (no one has a answer yet ), is this a newer HD transfer or the same one used in the 2010 DVD (anamorphic) release?

Worries me a bit that PQ may not be quite up to Blu standards but I could be wrong . When I get this, I'll update everyone.

Yes, Please do. If the disc is good, I'll buy it, but not otherwise.

Personally, I have had very few issues wit MOD's over the years, and when I have ever had an issue (with some of the early Warner Archives titles), these have been replaced or corrected. BIG BAD MAMA -- not a great film, but who wants to pass up an Angie Dickinson nude scene?
