My STB recently went belly-up. I only have an SDTV, so I've been watching analog tv for awhile now. My wife kindly bought me a nice antenna as part of my Christmas gift and I'd really like to get a new tuner so I can install this thing and re-enter the digital world.
What's the best way for me to get an inexpensive ATSC tuner to use for watching OTA television? Can I just pickup an old satellite box from Ebay, or do I need to actually buy a STB. I ask because even now STB's designed for OTA start around $120, which just seems overly expensive.
I've considered the computer route, since a tuner card can be had for around $30 I would get the added benefit of DVR. However, I cannot get a computer into the living room. I could run ethernet cables to the TV area, but I do not have Windows MCE or Vista, so I don't think I could use a "Media Extender"-type product. If anyone has suggestions related to the PC option I would certainly be willing to entertain those as well.
