I was wondering the advantages of using aperiodic vents and when they would usually be used. All i understand is that they lower system Q. Im trying to design a 3 way system with two 8's crossed over at 500Hz in a ported chamber and two 5 inch open back midranges taking over from there (and a tweeter of course). If I designed a sealed enclosure for the the 5's, would it be benificial to put an anperiodic vent in the back?

From what little I know about them (keyword being little), the vents help small enclosures that would normally produce a high Qtc alignment. If your box is big enough, I don't think they're necessary.
